Chapter 708:
I stood in the biting wind as it tossed my hair around. In a flat, calm tone, I answered, “I honored our agreement and walked away, but Ethan refused to let go. Mr. Yates, this isn’t my fault. You’re blaming the wrong person.”
Philip clearly hadn’t expected such a composed response. After a brief silence, his expression eased. For the first time, his tone softened as he offered me a truly tempting proposal. “If you drop the charges against Rola, I give you my word that you and Ethan will find your way back to each other. You’ll become the Luna of Thorn Pack, and no one will ever dare hurt you or your children again.”
As he spoke, he opened the photo album he had brought along.
“Look at these.” He pointed to the smiling little boy in one of the pictures. “Ethan was raised surrounded by love and protection. He’s already lost his grandfather. If he loses Rola too, it will destroy him. Lianne, can you really watch him go through that?”
I lowered my eyes, my fingertips gently tracing the photographs that captured Ethan’s childhood.
In every picture, his eyes sparkled with innocence and confidence, untouched by life’s hardships. It was the kind of confidence that only came from growing up deeply loved and fiercely protected.
But what about me?

I had lost my mother when I was a child. Now my father was gone as well.
If Ethan hadn’t come into my life, I would have been completely alone long ago.
However, if I had never met him, perhaps my father would still be alive today.
As I looked at those photographs, a wave of bitterness rose in my heart.
Ethan and I had always belonged to different worlds.
He had an entire pack standing behind him, while my father had been my only remaining family. He was the man who endured every bitter winter with me, wrapping his only warm coat over my shoulders.
I could never forgive the person who took my father’s life.
Seeing my silence, Philip quickly tried to persuade me. “Rola was only manipulated by Ivy. She was used. Put all the blame on Ivy. You can punish her however you see fit. Even if you kill her, the pack won’t interfere. Just let Rola go.”
“No.” I lifted my head and met his eyes firmly. “Rola ordered the injection. She killed my father. The surveillance footage proves everything. No one can erase what she did.”
“Your father is already gone!” Philip finally snapped, his voice filled with frustration. “Is it really worth throwing away your future with Ethan for someone who’s dead, and a sense of justice you’ll never truly achieve?”
“It is.” I said each word with unwavering conviction. “Because he was my father.”
Philip held my gaze for a long moment, then gave a cold scoff and shut the photo album. “Think it through carefully,” he said. “Your future with Ethan depends on it.”
With those final words, he got into his car and drove off.
I stayed rooted to the spot for a long time. Only after my hands and feet had gone numb from the cold did I finally turn and make my way back to the room.
