Chapter 711:
My father’s death was always there between us, a wound that never really healed.
No matter how desperately I longed to remain in Ethan’s arms, I couldn’t forget what had happened to my father.
“What are you thinking about so seriously?”
Ethan’s deep voice broke through my thoughts.
I blinked, returning to reality, only then realizing he had closed his laptop and was quietly watching me.
“Nothing. I was just surprised by how fast you finished your work,” I said with a light smile, doing my best to hide the worry still lingering in my eyes.
A playful grin spread across his face. He leaned in, his warm breath brushing against my neck. “Lianne, I wrapped things up quickly so we’d have time for another round.”
His teasing caught me completely off guard. Heat rushed to my face, and my cheeks turned red. I gave him a gentle shove. “Can you be serious for once?”
He laughed softly, slipped off his robe, and climbed back beneath the blanket, wrapping me securely in his arms.
Resting his chin lightly on top of my head, he spoke in a warm, gentle voice. “Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Didn’t you say you wanted to talk? So tell me. Whatever it is, I’m listening.”

Leaning against his broad chest, I listened to the calm, steady rhythm of his heart. A sudden curiosity rose within me. “Ethan, tell me about your childhood. Even though we were mates for all those years, it feels like we never truly shared these parts of ourselves. Everything I know about you came from other people.”
After a brief pause, I guessed softly, “I always imagined you grew up as everyone’s favorite, living without a single worry.”
The hand gently running through my hair stopped for a moment. Then he let out a soft, weary sigh. “I was the center of attention, that’s true. But without a single worry? Not even close. After my older brother died unexpectedly, I became the only heir to Thorn Pack. From that day forward, my life was stripped down to nothing but responsibility.”
His voice sounded somewhat hollow in the quiet night. “There were rules for everything. My manners, my education, the people I associated with. I wasn’t allowed to laugh whenever I wanted or choose what I liked. Even the way I slept and ate was carefully monitored. Back then, I was nothing but a puppet that followed orders, never once questioning what my family decided for me.”
He lowered his gaze to meet mine, wearing a faint, bitter smile. “Even when I got together with you, at the beginning, it was only because it benefited the pack.”
“But in the end, you turned your back on the entire Thorn Pack because of me,” I said softly, exposing the painful truth.
