Chapter 727:
Just then, I spotted a taxi in the distance.
I waved it down, climbed inside before Jeremy could stop me, gave the driver my address, and urged him to leave immediately.
Looking through the rearview mirror, I saw Jeremy’s car following behind us.
Even after everything we’d said, even at his angriest, he still refused to leave until he knew I’d made it home safely.
I leaned against the cool glass, exhausted, watching the pair of headlights trailing us through the darkness.
Ethan had someone willing to stand up for him. And me? It felt as though I’d been carrying this battle entirely on my own.

Closing my eyes, I silently prayed for the lawsuit to end soon.
Whether it brought redemption or ruin, I no longer cared. I only wanted it to be over.
By the time I reached my apartment, it was already two in the morning.
I collapsed onto the sofa, my body drained, yet my thoughts refused to slow, spinning endlessly until sleep became impossible.
Not wanting to drown in my emotions, I forced myself up, sat at my desk, and opened my laptop.
Almost automatically, my fingers logged into Voss’s internal company portal.
As I scanned the real-time updates, one entry immediately caught my attention. Conference Room One: In Use. The room belonged exclusively to Ethan.
The timestamp read 3 a.m. The meeting agenda was displayed beneath it: Progress Review for the New Jewelry Project.
I stared at those words, my breathing growing uneven.
Jeremy’s voice echoed in my mind. Ethan was selling the house we once shared, letting go of everything that belonged to us.
Maybe he truly was cutting every remaining tie between us.
This was the same jewelry project we’d traveled to Gelidmark to finalize together.
I could still remember him wrapping an arm around my waist, leaning close as he whispered that this project would belong to me, that I could design it however I wanted.
Now the project had officially begun without me. Perhaps he was only honoring a promise that had long since lost its meaning.
Drawing in a slow breath, I forced myself to look away and opened my work files instead.
Every contract. Every design draft. Every unfinished document. I organized them one by one, determined to leave everything in perfect order so whoever replaced me would never have to clean up after me.
Before I noticed, the entire night had slipped away.
As the first rays of dawn filtered through the curtains, I rubbed my aching eyes. For the first time, I understood Ethan.
Diving headfirst into work really was a great way to dull the ache and keep those gut-wrenching thoughts at bay, at least for a little while.
Lianne’s POV:
At seven o’clock that morning, I finished getting ready and headed to the office.
Halfway there, an intense, stabbing pain tore through my stomach. It felt as though something inside me were being ripped apart.
