Chapter 732:
The instant she realized I wouldn’t overlook it, the helpless expression vanished from her face.
She released my arm, stepped back, and glared at me with open resentment. “You’re leaving the company anyway, so why are you acting so righteous?” she snapped. “Who are you trying to impress? Do you still think you’re the respected Luna? Alpha abandoned you a long time ago. He even withdrew every single person he had protecting you. Lianne, you never deserved him. You deserve to spend the rest of your life alone.”
I looked at the jealousy twisting her features and felt nothing.
I had no interest in arguing about my personal life. Keeping my tone calm and professional, I gave her one final compromise. “There’s no point fighting about this. We’ll finish verifying every quotation first. When I submit the report, I’ll note that the discrepancies were discovered and corrected during the on-site inspection. It’ll reduce the disciplinary action you’ll face. This is as good as it gets from me.”
By the time I returned to the office, night had already fallen.
Several sleepless nights had completely drained my strength. The persistent burning in my stomach had only grown worse. The moment I sat down at my desk, everything went black.

I clutched the edge of the table, my vision swallowed by darkness. Only after several long moments did the room slowly come back into focus.
Just as I opened my computer to submit the report, my phone rang. It was Tim.
“Lianne,” he said, exhaustion evident in his voice, “the trial has been scheduled for the beginning of next month. Rola will appear in court herself. Ethan agreed to it. He didn’t use any of his authority to stop the proceedings.”
He paused before continuing, “He only made one request. Because of Rola’s age, he wants a doctor present throughout the trial.”
Lianne’s POV:
An unbearable ache squeezed around my heart, stealing the air from my lungs.
I’d made myself perfectly clear. I’d told Ethan not to interfere, told him to return to where he belonged. Yet, despite everything, he had chosen to shoulder the burden alone.
He didn’t try to protect his grandmother. He made sure she would end up in court.
Something inside me finally gave way. The fragile wall I’d been clinging to shattered, and tears instantly blurred my vision.
For the first time in my life, I longed to hear Ethan’s voice with such desperation.
I didn’t even need him to say anything. Just the sound of him breathing would have been enough.
Before making the call, I hastily invented an excuse that even I couldn’t believe: I wanted to ask about Ruby and Silas.
My hands shook as I tried to start a video call on WhatsApp.
Yet a cold notification flashed across the screen.
“This user requires friend verification. Since you are not currently in each other’s contact lists, please submit a friend request to proceed.”
I went completely still. The phone slipped from my grasp and landed on the desk with a muted thump.
Ethan had removed me.
