Chapter 746:
A dull ache spread through my heart. I lowered my eyes and answered vaguely, “If I’m still here, I’ll be there.”
Even I couldn’t bear to dwell on the uncertainty in those words.
After Frank left, I crouched down, carefully brushed the dust from the tombstone, and whispered, “Dad, goodbye. Once the trial is over, I’ll come back and have a drink with you.”
When I left the cemetery, I’d planned to stop by the supermarket to buy a few essentials. But after standing in front of the shelves for a while, I realized there wasn’t a single thing I wanted. My stomach was painfully empty, but the weight pressing on my heart was even harder to bear.
I walked out of the supermarket with nothing in my hands. Before I realized it, my feet had carried me to a bar I knew all too well.
The thought of tomorrow’s trial was suffocating. If I stayed sober tonight, I knew the nightmares would find me the moment I closed my eyes. It was better to drown everything in alcohol and let my mind sink into a temporary haze.

The bar was filled with deafening heavy metal music, flashing lights sweeping across the room and making the already chaotic atmosphere feel even more overwhelming.
I chose the most secluded corner by the bar and downed one glass of strong liquor after another. The burning alcohol slid down my throat, making my eyes water.
“Hey, gorgeous. Drinking by yourself? Let me buy you another one.” A potbellied man waved a black card in front of me, his greedy eyes shamelessly wandering over my body.
“Get lost.” I didn’t even lift my head. My voice was cold enough to freeze the air.
I took out my phone and dialed the number I knew by heart. Again and again.
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable…”
I was met with the same cold, automated response every time.
I let out a bitter chuckle as tears threatened to fall into the drink in my hand.
Ethan was really cruel. He hadn’t even left me the smallest shred of hope to cling to.
Lianne’s POV
A little while later, a young man who looked no older than his early twenties walked over. He had a neat, refreshing look, and a kind of innocence in his eyes that the world hadn’t taken from him yet.
“Miss, you’ve had too much to drink,” he said shyly, looking at me.
Hazy from the alcohol, I pulled a bill from my purse and held it out to him. My words came out slurred. “Your phone… let me use it.”
He looked surprised. Instead of accepting the money, he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. “You don’t have to pay. How about giving me your number instead?”
“No.” I turned him down firmly, my blurred gaze fixed on him. “Just let me borrow your phone. I’ll return it after I make one call.”
He didn’t seem bothered by my refusal. With an easy smile, he unlocked his phone and placed it in my hand.
