Chapter 751:
I dug my fingernails into my palms, trying to hold back the tears threatening to fall.
I should be happy. I wasn’t supposed to cry.
A few moments later, the judge entered with steady, dignified steps, and the courtroom fell into a heavy silence. He sat down, opened the case file, and cleared his throat. His firm, authoritative voice echoed through the chamber. “Bring the defendants into the courtroom.”
The heavy doors slowly swung open, and the sound of chains scraping across the floor echoed through the vast, silent room.
I held my breath as Ivy was led to the defendant’s table. The moment I saw her, my heart jumped. The glamorous, proud celebrity I once knew was gone. She now looked frail and gaunt, with pale skin and hollow eyes. If she hadn’t been standing at the defendant’s stand, I might not have recognized her at all.
Rola sat beside her. She had lost weight as well, but she still carried herself with grace and unshaken composure. She sat straight, her eyes fixed blankly on the distance. The entire time, she never once looked in my direction.
I withdrew my cold gaze. Her indifference could no longer hurt me. I hadn’t come here hoping she would notice me. I came to seek justice for my father.

The trial seemed to stretch on without end, every minute feeling unbearably heavy. One piece of evidence after another appeared on the large screen: the cold medical records, the blurry surveillance footage. Every image reopened wounds I had struggled for months to bury, forcing me to relive memories I had desperately tried to forget.
Lianne’s POV
The lawyers’ voices bounced across the courtroom as they argued continuously. The Voss family’s legal team had even called in the doctor who had treated my father back then to testify. They exploited every legal loophole they could find, trying to distance Rola from the controversial fifty-milligram mercury injection.
I sat in silence, my fingers locked tightly together. While an endless stream of legal terms filled the room, my eyes kept drifting toward the corner where the audience was seated.
A handful of reporters were there, along with people who had come simply to watch. But the man I knew so well, the one I desperately hoped to see, wasn’t among them.
I knew that Ethan staying away was the right decision. It kept him from being forced to choose between his family and the woman he loved in front of everyone. It also protected the fragile connection we still had from falling apart completely.
Even so, a small, sad part of my heart couldn’t stop feeling let down. If only I could have seen him from a distance. Just knowing he cared enough to show up would have been enough for me. But he never came.
He had truly removed himself from my life for good.
“The defendants may now make their final statements.” The judge’s voice broke through my thoughts.
