Chapter 753:
Tracy puffed out her cheeks, obviously unhappy. “I’m not made of glass! When you were pregnant with the twins, you were constantly flying around for work and staying up all night finishing your design drafts. You never acted like it was a big deal.”
My hand paused on the car door. A faint, bitter smile flickered across my face. “That’s different, Tracy. From the day you found out you were pregnant until this moment, you’ve always had someone who loved you, someone who was there to protect you.”
“You have Frank too,” Tracy murmured softly, her eyes filled with pity. “You’re just refusing to accept him.”
Her words made my chest tighten, but I had no desire to keep talking about it. Those mixed feelings were like a knot that only grew tighter the more I tried to loosen it.
I shut down the conversation immediately. “That’s enough. Get in the car. I’ll drive you home.”

The car soon blended into the steady stream of traffic. Tracy sat in the passenger seat, chatting nonstop. “You know, Lianne, if I weren’t pregnant, I’d be dragging you to a bar tonight. We’d drink until we couldn’t stand and celebrate you finally leaving all of this behind.”
I kept both hands on the steering wheel and answered with a soft hum. I didn’t tell her that I had already gone to a bar by myself the night before and done something stupid. Besides, even if she weren’t expecting, there was no chance Jeremy would let her go anywhere as wild as a bar. He was far too protective.
“To be honest, Jeremy adores me, but even that gets exhausting sometimes. Same face, every single day, after a while, even a handsome face loses its appeal.”
Her complaint made my heart stir.
Even a handsome face lost its appeal?
My thoughts drifted to Ethan’s striking face. I remembered the fierce look in his eyes whenever he was angry, and his husky, tender voice when he whispered my name while we were intimate.
After everything we had endured together, after surviving so many life-and-death struggles, I realized I had never once grown tired of looking at him. Not even for a second. Even now, when we had become little more than strangers bound by countless memories, he was still the brightest, most untouchable Alpha in my heart.
“Lianne, if you won’t drink, you can order juice at the bar. I’m dying for a drink.” Tracy’s pleading voice pulled me back to reality.
“Absolutely not. Don’t even think about it,” I said, leaving no room for negotiation.
Still, a different thought quietly formed in the back of my mind. After I took Tracy home, maybe I’d go back to that bar tonight.
I had already checked twice. Ethan still had my number blocked. No matter how much I drank this time, I wouldn’t be able to disrupt his life again.
I was exhausted. The endless arguments in the courtroom had wrung every bit of strength out of me. All I wanted now was to get drunk, fall into a deep, dreamless sleep, and clear my mind before it finally broke under the weight of everything.
