Chapter 758:
I had believed that the day I resigned and walked out of Voss Group would be the last time I ever set foot in that place. But fate seemed determined to toy with me. No matter how hard I tried to leave everything behind, I could never completely break away from that building, or from that man.
I followed Noah through the familiar hallways and into the office, my mind all over the place.
I had spent so much time here. Ethan and I had debated project proposals, shared cups of coffee long after midnight, and leaned against each other for hours, talking about everything that crossed our minds.
Once, this office had felt warm and welcoming. Now it was like a stifling cage, squeezing the air from my lungs.
Noah handed me a cup of warm water, but there was an unusual stiffness in his movements. His eyes briefly settled on the grocery bag I was carrying. As though making casual conversation, he asked, “Ms. Riley, you went shopping this late? What did you need that urgently?”
Without giving it much thought, I set the bag on the table. “Just some drinks. Help yourself if you want.”
The bag was mostly filled with brightly colored bottles of juice. The only alcohol inside was the two bottles of beer tucked away at the bottom.
I was sure someone like Noah, who practically lived for work, wouldn’t have any interest in a couple of cheap beers.

The next moment, however, caught me completely off guard.
Without hesitation, Noah reached into the bag and pulled out the two beers as though he knew exactly where they were.
He examined one of the labels with an innocent expression, then said in mock surprise, “Oh, this is beer? The packaging looks so much like soda. I was actually thinking about having a drink tonight. Do you mind if I take these?”
At that moment, everything suddenly made sense. Every strange coincidence fit together perfectly.
Why had the supermarket suddenly imposed alcohol limits so late at night? Why had the system conveniently refused to sell me vodka? Why had Noah called with that flimsy excuse about an emergency at exactly the right time?
There had never been a project emergency or a system failure. Someone had carefully arranged all of it, making sure I wouldn’t get a drink. And there was only one person who could have done it: Ethan.
“Noah, you can drop the act.” My voice was cold and emotionless as I exposed the truth. “There isn’t an urgent project problem, is there? If there really were, you’d be in front of the server trying to fix it instead of eyeing my two bottles of beer.”
Noah went still. A flash of panic crossed his face before he hurriedly picked up a random file from the desk. Pointing at a page of data, he forced out an explanation. “No, Ms. Riley, look… there’s a flaw in this section of the logic…”
The whole performance was painfully obvious.
I couldn’t even be bothered to call out the rest of his act. Calmly, I held out my hand and said, “Give me the beer. Those are the only bottles I managed to buy tonight. I’m exhausted. I just want to drink enough to finally get some sleep.”
