Chapter 761:
The office filled with a heavy, suffocating silence. We stood less than half a meter apart, neither of us willing to back down.
“Did you come back because you saw my calls?” I finally asked, my voice barely audible.
He let out a cold laugh. “Don’t think so highly of yourself. I came back because of Rola’s lawsuit. The Voss family’s reputation cannot be compromised.”
He paused, his eyes sweeping over my face with indifference. “As for you, you’re only Ruby and Silas’s mother. If anything happened to you, the children would be heartbroken. That’s the only reason. Don’t get the wrong idea.”
His words landed like a needle’s sting. I wasn’t deeply hurt, but a dull ache lingered.
I forced a small smile and met his gaze without wavering. “I’m sorry for calling you while I was drunk last night.”

I lowered my head in a deep bow, keeping my posture respectful and composed. “I’m sorry, Alpha. I promise to never bother you again.”
My apology only made the anger in his eyes burn fiercer.
“Lianne, drop the act. It’s revolting.” He clenched his jaw and stepped closer, his chest heaving with rage.
“If my existence bothers you that much, you can always change your number,” I replied calmly, refusing to back down. “I can choose to drink or not, but I promise I won’t disturb you again. As for my life, whether I destroy it or drink until I lose myself, that’s none of your business. Ethan, we’re no longer mates. You don’t have the right to dictate my choices.”
Lianne’s POV
The cruel words I threw at Ethan left him completely speechless. The color drained from his face, and his hands slowly curled into tight fists at his sides.
Without sparing him another glance, I turned to leave.
Noah rushed after me and blocked my path, his voice filled with worry. “Ms. Riley, it’s late. It isn’t safe for you to leave by yourself…”
“Let her go!” Ethan turned his back to me, his hoarse, strained voice ringing out behind me. “It’s getting late. I just don’t want the kids to worry… Take her home, Noah.”
In the end, nothing had changed. Even when he cared, he always hid it behind excuses.
For the next few days, I made a point of stopping by supermarkets and liquor stores, buying bottle after bottle of alcohol. This time, no one stopped me or reminded me that I wasn’t allowed to buy so much liquor. The freedom I had longed for was finally real.
But when I looked at the liquor bottles covering the table, I realized I had no desire to drink at all.
Before I could sort through my chaotic emotions, the verdict came.
When Tim called, the defeat and frustration in his voice were palpable. “Lianne, the verdict is out. Ivy has been sentenced to death, and the execution will be carried out immediately. But… Rola has been acquitted.”
My fingers tightened around the phone, but I wasn’t surprised.
