Chapter 763:
My head pounded as I opened the bedroom door, only to find Tracy and Frank waiting anxiously in the living room, both of them with bloodshot eyes.
“Lianne! You finally opened the door!” Tracy cried, shooting to her feet despite her pregnant belly. She sobbed as she said, “We couldn’t reach you on your phone, and you wouldn’t answer the door. We were about to call the police to force it open!”
Looking at the fear and concern on their faces, I felt a wave of guilt.
I quietly made up an excuse, saying I had simply slept too deeply.

When Frank stepped out to buy breakfast, Tracy sat beside me and said hesitantly, “Lianne… actually, Frank has always…”
“Tracy.” I interrupted her before she could finish, my expression strangely calm. “Please don’t say it. In my current state, I can’t promise anyone a future. Besides, he has a girlfriend.”
She let out a soft sigh and squeezed my hand, urging me to stay at her place for a while so I could get away from everything and clear my mind.
I smiled faintly and refused. My eyes drifted to her protruding belly, and I gently reminded her to focus on taking care of herself and the baby instead of worrying about me.
When Frank returned with breakfast, I forced myself to eat a few bites with them.
As they prepared to leave, I met Frank’s concerned eyes and said softly, “Frank, I’ll be okay. Go spend time with Jane.”
He stood there in silence for a long while, then gave a reluctant nod. With heavy steps, he turned and walked away.
After they left, I drove to the law firm to collect the official verdict from the first trial.
The cold wind at the cemetery outside the city cut across my face like a blade.
I knelt before my father’s gravestone, staring at the gentle smile frozen in his photograph. Tears slipped down my face. “Dad… I’m sorry.”
My shaky hands held the verdict over a flame.
The breeze stirred the flickering fire as it slowly consumed the cold, lifeless words printed on the pages. I watched the paper curl inward, darken, and finally crumble into ashes. With every passing second, my heart sank further into despair.
I had failed. I had sacrificed everything and risked it all, yet in the end, I was still no more than an insect the Thorn Pack could crush without effort.
Ivy had received the death sentence, but the actual mastermind, Rola, would continue living comfortably in this city.
The law might have failed to bring my father’s killer to justice, but I had no intention of giving up. If justice could not be found in a courtroom, then I would seek it with my own hands. I would reclaim the justice that had been denied for more than ten years.
I slowly reached out and brushed my fingertips across my father’s name carved into the gravestone. My gaze hardened, filled with unwavering resolve.
“Dad,” I whispered softly. “It won’t be much longer… We’ll be together again.”
