Chapter 765:
“Alright. Just make the videos when they wake up and send them to my work email.” She cut me off before I could finish, her voice calm, as though we were discussing work matters. “You don’t need to unblock my number. Email is more convenient for both of us.”
Every word was measured, carefully reminding me that she had every right to ask as their mother. Her tone was courteous and distant.
She had stripped away every ounce of warmth between us, leaving me as nothing but a stranger in her life.
My heart ached. I couldn’t accept that she could treat me with such total indifference.
“Lianne, is anything wrong?” I asked uneasily. “Are you upset about the verdict? If you think it’s unfair, I can…”
“No. I just miss the children. That’s all. Goodbye.” She cut me off again, then hung up.

I called back immediately, but the unfamiliar number had already been turned off.
I tried her actual number next, only to hear the same cold, automated voice telling me it was unavailable.
An overwhelming sense of dread settled heavily over my heart.
I reached out to Noah with urgency. “Have you booked the tickets yet?”
“Alpha, the earliest direct flight leaves this afternoon. If you’re willing to take a connecting flight…”
“Book the earliest connecting flight. Right now!”
I no longer cared how inconvenient the trip would be. The foreboding feeling inside me grew stronger with every passing second.
Lianne’s voice lingered in my mind. It hadn’t sounded like she was simply asking to see videos of Ruby and Silas. It had felt like she was saying goodbye.
I had to get back as soon as possible. If she was truly planning something reckless, I couldn’t even begin to imagine the fallout.
Lianne’s POV
The night before my meeting with Rola, I got no sleep.
My mind was in complete chaos, and the relentless pounding in my temples only grew worse. In the end, I could only force down two strong painkillers with a mouthful of cold water, barely holding my exhausted body together.
The following day, I reached into the back of my wardrobe and pulled out a red dress I had never worn. I carefully filled in my brows and applied bright lipstick, doing everything I could to make myself appear more alive than I felt.
I arrived at the restaurant early.
The dining room was nearly deserted. A lone waiter stood quietly in the corner while a few dim lights stretched long shadows across the floor.
Rola didn’t show up on time.
I knew her game well. Making people wait was one of her favorite ways to assert her authority and remind them who held the upper hand.
I sat by the window in silence with a cup of juice before me, watching the streetlights outside blur into hazy stripes through the glass.
About thirty minutes later, Rola finally walked in, dressed to perfection. The sharp rhythm of her heels echoed as she approached, and she calmly took her seat without offering a single word of apology for keeping me waiting.
Her usually warm eyes were filled with open contempt.
My chest tightened, and my eyes began to sting.
