Chapter 777:
I took Lianne back to her apartment instead of taking her to the Voss estate.
She looked far worse than I had imagined. Her face was ghostly pale, and she seemed so weak and fragile it felt as though the slightest breeze could carry her away.
I was afraid her condition would frighten Ruby and Silas. More than that, I worried she wouldn’t even have the strength to spend time with them if we went back.
The moment I pushed the door open, the heavy smell of alcohol hit me.
Beer cans were scattered all over the living room floor, leaving the place in complete disarray.
I had always been obsessively tidy, but the sight before me didn’t make me think about the mess. Instead, my heart ached. I couldn’t bring myself to care about the clutter.
I laid her down on the soft bed in the bedroom. Though my voice held its usual authority, every movement was filled with care. “Be good. Get some sleep.”
The wound on my chest throbbed relentlessly, while the lingering silver burned through my veins, pulling painfully at my cuts with each step I took. Even so, I didn’t call the cleaners or ask Noah to handle it.

I took off my suit jacket, rolled up my sleeves, crouched down, and picked up the empty cans one after another.
As I looked at them, a deep sense of bitterness settled over me.
The Lianne I once knew had always lived with strict self-control. She used to dislike it whenever I drank for business. Now she depended on cheap alcohol just to quiet her sleepless nights and keep herself from falling apart.
I was the Alpha of the Thorn Pack, undefeated in the business world and respected by everyone in my family. Yet in front of this woman, I had never felt more powerless.
I could easily take charge of billion-dollar negotiations, yet I couldn’t stop the single thought in her heart that kept pulling her toward death.
By the time I finished cleaning the apartment, it was already late into the night.
I forced my exhausted body over to the bed, expecting Lianne to be asleep. Instead, I met a pair of eyes that were wide awake.
“Why are you still awake?” I asked, sitting on the edge of the bed, my voice rough with exhaustion.
“I can’t sleep.” She smiled bitterly as she answered in a hollow voice. “Whenever I close my eyes without drinking, I see my father falling off that cliff. Ethan… I find it hard to sleep.”
I felt a pang in my heart.
I leaned closer and stroked her cold cheek, speaking softly to comfort her. “I’ll take you to see a doctor tomorrow. If you’re sick, we’ll get you treated. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your mind or your body, I’ll stay with you through all of it. Lianne, I’m only asking one thing. Please don’t think about leaving me again. Even if we spend the rest of our lives trapped in this pain together, I accept it.”
