Chapter 780:
Before I could answer, the phone on the table suddenly vibrated loudly.
It was an incoming call from Tracy.
“Lianne! Guess what!” Tracy’s voice came through the receiver, bright and giddy. “Jeremy and I just got the news, we’re having a daughter! Well, I’m making her marry your son the moment she’s old enough.”
As I listened to Tracy and Jeremy teasing each other so naturally, a faint ache of envy quietly surfaced in my heart. Their lively, uncomplicated happiness felt like something I could only admire from afar.

“Lianne, you have to come meet me!” Tracy’s voice was insistent and bright. “I’m dying for that little place we love. Come have lunch with me!”
I was about to decline, wanting to tell her I wasn’t in any condition to go out, but Ethan answered before I could. “Sure. I’ll bring her over personally in a little while.”
On the other end, Tracy was clearly thrown by his voice. She sounded utterly stunned. “Ethan? You two… why are you together?”
My grip on the phone tightened as I struggled to think of an explanation for everything that had happened over the past few days. Before I could say anything, Jeremy laughed and casually chimed in, “Come on, Tracy. It’d be shocking if Lianne were with another guy. Besides, who other than Ethan would be keeping such a close watch on her?”
His lighthearted joke instantly eased the awkwardness hanging over the conversation.
Half an hour later, we arrived at the restaurant.
The instant Tracy saw me, the excitement on her face vanished, replaced immediately by concern. She hurried over, grabbed both my hands, and looked at me with eyes already turning red.
“Lianne, what happened to you? You’ve gotten so skinny! After we’re done eating, you’re coming home with me. I’m going to help you get your strength back.”
Lianne’s POV
Jeremy quickly stepped in to ease the tension, probably worried that Tracy, whose temper had grown more unpredictable during her pregnancy, might actually try to pull me away right in front of Ethan.
Once we took our seats, Ethan’s attention stayed on me.
He hardly touched his food. He looked at the barely touched dishes before me, his brows drawing together slightly. Then he asked in a whisper, “You don’t have much of an appetite. Would you like some warm milk? It might help settle your stomach.”
I nodded obediently.
Ethan immediately raised his hand to call over a waiter, all while calmly handling Tracy’s stream of questions. His voice stayed composed. “Lianne hasn’t been feeling well recently, and the doctor told her to get plenty of rest. Let’s talk about something light instead. We don’t want her feeling pressured.”
Jeremy was quick to catch on. He smoothly took control of the conversation and began enthusiastically talking about their unborn daughter.
