Chapter 792:
After putting Ruby and Silas to bed, I went downstairs to the living room and saw a missed call from Melisa.
I returned her call immediately.
“Ethan, how is Lianne doing?” Melisa asked, her voice calm and professional. “The doctor told me she’s been having hallucinations. Remember, whatever happens, don’t put any pressure on her. If the deep problems she’s carrying inside are never dealt with, medicine alone won’t actually help her.”
“I know.” I pressed a hand to my aching temple, the uneasiness weighing heavily on my chest.
The way Lianne had looked at that knife earlier continued to haunt me. I had never felt so helpless and frustrated.
I didn’t continue discussing Lianne’s condition with Melisa, though. Instead, I changed the subject, my tone turning cold and serious. “Melisa, tell me the truth. Did the elders of the Thorn Pack come to you privately and try to pressure you into marrying me?”
There was a short silence on the other end of the line before she finally answered honestly, “Yes. They believe that given Lianne’s current position and her unstable mental condition, she’s no longer fit to be Luna.”
“Listen to me,” I interrupted, my voice firm and unwavering. “In this lifetime, I will never marry anyone but her. I don’t care what terms the elders put forward. I will not give in.”

After a pause, I looked toward the darkness outside the window. “I need you to help me with this. If you refuse the marriage alliance, they won’t be able to force me into it.”
“You’re so devoted to Lianne,” Melisa said with a soft chuckle, a hint of relief in her voice. “Don’t worry. I have no intention of coming between you and Lianne. I’ll do what you want.”
Lianne’s POV
The medicine the doctor prescribed was surprisingly effective.
For the first time in what felt like forever, I didn’t wake up feeling as though I were standing at the edge of a cliff, nor did I hear those sinister voices whispering inside my mind. I slept peacefully until morning.
When I opened my eyes, I spent a moment staring at the elaborate crystal chandelier above me.
The unusual sense of mental clarity left me slightly bewildered. I couldn’t tell whether this temporary calm meant I was truly recovering, or whether it was simply an illusion created by the medication.
“Did you sleep well?” Ethan’s warm, comforting voice came from beside the bed.
He was already dressed, sitting in the armchair beside the bed, looking through a pile of reports.
The moment he realized I was awake, he set the documents aside and leaned closer, placing the back of his hand on my forehead.
“The medicine is helping, but you shouldn’t become reliant on it,” he said, sitting down on the edge of the bed. He wound a loose strand of my hair around his finger and continued, “The doctor said long-term use of the medication could cause side effects. I suggested trying calming aromatherapy, or some gentle exercise in bed once your condition stabilizes. What do you think?”
