Chapter 798:
“She couldn’t get through to her and started panicking. She almost drove to your house a few minutes ago. I barely managed to stop her.” Jeremy released a weary breath. “Tell me what’s happened. Why isn’t Lianne answering?”
Silence lingered for a brief moment. Then I decided there was no point hiding it. “Lianne was poisoned. She regained consciousness, but her condition is still serious.”
There was only stunned silence on the other end before Jeremy’s breathing grew uneven.
“What?” he finally managed. “Poisoned? Who would be bold enough to attack her while she’s under your protection?”

I pressed a hand to my aching temples, trying to calm down enough to think. “The poison must have entered Lianne’s system some time ago. It has a long incubation period and only recently began to take effect and rapidly worsen her condition. My biggest suspicion right now is Melisa.”
“Melisa?” Jeremy sounded genuinely surprised. “That doctor? She always seems so gentle and harmless. Besides, hasn’t she been helping you this whole time?”
“Don’t forget, she’s a witch. On top of that, she’s an exceptional doctor with extensive knowledge of pharmacology and rare poisons.” A cold smile touched my lips, my gaze turning icy. “She has both the knowledge and the opportunity to poison the water without anyone noticing. And Lianne trusts her without question.”
Jeremy fell silent. He knew how difficult it could be to see through a person’s true intentions. After a long pause, he finally spoke. “Tracy absolutely cannot know about this. She’s far along in her pregnancy, and too much emotional stress could send her into premature labor. I’ll find a way to keep her calm.”
“I know,” I answered. “Once Lianne is feeling a little better, I’ll ask her to record a short video or make a brief call to reassure Tracy. Everything is already a mess, and I can’t afford for anything else to go wrong.”
After ending the call, I sat beside the bed and watched Lianne sleep. Even in her sleep, her brows stayed tightly drawn together.
Fragments of information flashed through my mind, slowly clicking together.
Melisa’s family was in financial trouble. Then Philip suddenly poured a huge sum of money into their accounts. And the elders kept pushing for an alliance between her family and mine… Motive. Opportunity. Timing. Every piece connected to the next, forming one undeniable conclusion. It all led back to that seemingly harmless woman.
If this had truly been a carefully planned attempt to kill Lianne, then Melisa was the most suitable person for the job.
At that moment, my phone vibrated. A message from Noah. “Alpha, we’ve got Melisa. She didn’t put up a fight. She’s strangely calm.”
I stared at the message, a dark, murderous light flashing in my eyes.
I called Noah at once, my voice low and threatening. “Take her to the private warehouse. Keep a close eye on her and don’t let her find any opportunity to hurt herself. Once I’ve dealt with everything here, I’ll go there myself.”
I set my phone down, leaned toward Lianne, and pressed a soft kiss to her cold lips.
