Chapter 799:
“Lianne,” I whispered, “whoever did this to you will pay a heavy price for it.”
Lianne’s POV
When I opened my eyes again, the dizziness that had been haunting me had subsided a bit.
I turned my head and saw Ethan still sitting beside my bed.
“You’re awake.” He set the documents in his hand aside and leaned closer, stroking my cheek as he carefully studied my face. “How are you feeling?”
“Much better. It’s like all the hallucinations are gone.” I gave him a reassuring smile, then sat up. “Did I sleep for a long time?”
“Not that long. Tracy has been frantically trying to reach you.” He handed me my phone, his expression heavy. “Call her back. Jeremy said she’s distraught.”
I looked at the dozens of missed calls on the screen, and my heart grew warm.
In this world, it was comforting to know that someone other than Ethan truly cared about me.
However, when I returned the call, it was Jeremy who answered.
“Lianne? Thank God you finally called back.” Jeremy’s voice sounded rough and rushed. “I’m at the hospital. Tracy has gone into premature labor. She’s in the intensive care unit, and her condition isn’t looking good.”

My mind went completely blank. The relief I had felt just moments earlier vanished instantly.
“I need to go to the hospital.” I threw off the covers and tried to climb out of bed, but Ethan immediately stopped me, holding me firmly in place.
“Your condition isn’t stable yet. You could pass out again at any moment.” His brows were tightly drawn together, his expression heavy with disapproval.
“Ethan, Tracy is my best friend. I have to be there for her.” I grabbed his arm, softening my voice as I tried to persuade him. “I promise I’ll stay where you can see me the entire time. I won’t go anywhere by myself. And once we’re back, I’ll follow my treatment plan exactly. I promise. Okay?”
He stared at me silently for a long moment, then sighed in defeat. He gave in and ordered a servant to bring me a thick coat. After wrapping me up carefully, he took me with him.
The hospital hallway was filled with a sharp, antiseptic smell, one that always brought back my darkest memories.
Outside the intensive care unit, Jeremy paced back and forth restlessly. His once-immaculate suit was now wrinkled, his eyes red from exhaustion and worry.
When Jeremy saw us, his voice trembled, his eyes fixed on the closed doors as he spoke through clenched teeth. “The doctors say her condition is unstable. They may need to perform an emergency C-section. I’m never letting her go through childbirth again. Once she and the baby are safe, I’ll get a vasectomy. She won’t have to suffer through this ever again.”
Ethan placed a hand on Jeremy’s shoulder. He had already made arrangements beforehand, bringing in the hospital’s best obstetrics team.
I stood quietly to one side, my anxious gaze fixed on the surgical light above the door, my palms slick with cold sweat.
