Chapter 806:
“The answer hasn’t changed, Ethan.” She tipped her head slightly, her carefully applied makeup giving her an almost pitiful appearance beneath the pale glow overhead. “Marry me. Make me the acknowledged Luna of the Thorn Pack. I don’t even mind if Lianne stays by your side. Every month, I’ll personally bring the antidote and make sure she keeps living peacefully.”
“Keep dreaming.” I closed the distance between us, the pressure of my Alpha aura turning the air heavy around us. “Ask for something else. Make me suffer in her place. Order me to do anything. Just leave her alone.”
“Make you suffer in her place instead?” Melisa laughed quietly, amusement flickering across her face while emptiness filled her eyes. “Do you really think I’d throw away the only thing keeping you under my control? You’re tough, Ethan. But Lianne? She’s the crack in your armor. I worked hard to set the whole thing up. Why would I give it up?”
She moved closer until her fingertips lightly brushed the front of my jacket. Her voice stayed composed, almost terrifyingly so. “Stop wasting time trying to recreate the antidote. You could gather every witch alive, and none of them would succeed. Every family has its own potion secrets. Miss even one tiny detail, and the cure becomes another poison. I’m the only person capable of saving her.”
My hands curled into fists so tightly my joints popped from the strain.
Being trapped with no way to fight back awakened an overwhelming urge to kill.
“I can free you from your family’s control,” I said, forcing my anger down one final time. “I’ll give you lasting authority. I’ll eliminate anyone who stands against you. Whatever you ask for, I’ll make it happen. Just cure Lianne completely.”
“Enough!” Her composure shattered. She shouted so loudly that tears spilled from her bloodshot eyes. “Why are you saying all this now? I begged you for help, and you just ignored me. When I fought with everything I had to escape that disgusting arranged marriage and break away from my family, you were so busy dealing with that lawsuit that whether I lived or died didn’t matter to you!”
Pain and frustration twisted every word she spoke. “You forced me into this! Your Thorn Pack cornered my family and sealed every exit I had. I even gave Lianne a chance. If she had simply withdrawn the lawsuit, none of this would have happened. She chose to keep fighting. She destroyed the last hope I had!”
I watched her emotional breakdown without the slightest trace of sympathy.
“Blame your family’s greed,” I replied evenly. “Not her.”

I had no interest in arguing over who had been right or wrong. Her excuses meant nothing to me. Right and wrong had never mattered where Lianne was concerned. The only thing that mattered was keeping her alive.
Yet reality had woven a prison around me. Melisa’s threats and careful calculations had left me completely powerless. She held leverage over me because Lianne meant everything to me.
Looking at the woman standing before me, consumed by obsession, all I felt was fury forced into silence.
For Lianne’s sake, I had no choice but to endure.
Melisa remained standing beneath the moonlight without taking a single step back.
