Chapter 816:
No one had ever held this much power over me. The cruelest part was that the weapon Melisa held was the person I valued above everything else. I had no room to take risks.
“Just tell Noah how much you need and he’ll send it over.” I closed my eyes, every word heavy with defeat.
Sounding pleased, as though she’d expected this outcome from the beginning, Melisa said, “Oh, and one more thing. Assign your strongest bodyguards to stay with me twenty-four hours a day. Lianne’s life is in my hands. If something happens to me, you’ll spend the rest of your life regretting it.”
I knew this wasn’t only about keeping herself safe. She was deliberately taunting me.
She knew she had become Lianne’s only hope. I had no choice but to protect her at any cost, guarding her as though she were something beyond priceless.

The moment the call disconnected, I slammed my phone into the windshield.
I stared at the darkening sky while murderous intent spread through every part of me.
Melisa had better never lose that vial. Because the day I found another solution would be the day she learned what real suffering truly meant.
By the time I reached Jeremy’s villa, the setting sun had painted the estate in rich shades of gold.
As soon as I stepped through the entrance, Lianne noticed me. She rose from the couch and hurried across the room.
The soft cream sweater she wore gave her an almost angelic gentleness.
“You’re here.” She took my coat as naturally as breathing, her fingers brushing lightly over my hand, washing away a little of the darkness inside me.
“Daddy!” Ruby and Silas came charging over, wrapping themselves around my legs, talking over each other about their hospital visit and Tracy’s daughter.
Watching the peaceful scene before me, the pressure that had been stretched to its breaking point inside my chest finally eased, if only by a fraction.
Ethan’s POV
I crouched and lifted Ruby and Silas into my arms, holding one against each side before pressing a gentle kiss to both their foreheads. Their bright giggles cut through the heaviness weighing on my heart, giving me a brief moment of peace.
Across the room, Jeremy rested casually against the banister, quietly observing us. Surprisingly, he kept his usual sarcasm to himself. Instead, he released a thoughtful breath. “Ethan, there are times I genuinely wish I had your luck. You’ve got the personality of a ticking time bomb, yet Lianne still loves you with her whole heart.”
A smirk tugged at my lips. “If you’re that envious, admit it. Though I hate to disappoint you, there’s nothing you can do to change it.”
Our joking eventually faded, and Jeremy tipped his head toward the balcony, silently asking me to follow.
