Chapter 833:
“I had a feeling.” A faint, bitter smile tugged at his lips, unable to hide the disappointment in his voice. “Back then, when you accepted me, I thought you were willing to give us another chance. I never realized you’d already decided to leave before it had even begun.”
He reached up, his fingertip lightly brushing across my lips as his unwavering gaze held mine. “But Lianne… even after all these years, there hasn’t been a single day when I forgot you.”
His words struck me straight in the heart. Emotion swelled inside my chest, so overwhelming that my nose began to sting.
I couldn’t bring myself to face such an honest confession of love. Flustered, I quickly turned my head away and awkwardly changed the subject. “You’ve been up all night. Go get some sleep and stop thinking so much.”

“Alright, let’s rest.” Before I could react, he caught my wrist with a firm grip and gently but decisively led me toward the master bedroom.
The door clicked shut behind us. He pulled the blackout curtains closed, leaving the room wrapped in soft, comforting darkness.
“Ethan… you promised we’d only sleep…” Backed against the edge of the bed, I heard the slight tremble in my own voice before I even realized I was nervous.
“We are resting,” he murmured, though his actions clearly contradicted his words.
His cool fingertips slipped beneath the fabric of my clothes as gentle kisses traveled from my collarbone upward until they finally captured my lips.
The little resistance I had quickly melted beneath his patient persistence.
There was no way I could match his strength. With careful tenderness, he eased me back onto the soft mattress.
In the dim room, his eyes burned with an almost startling intensity, like a lone wolf that had finally found what it had been searching for, filled with a desperate determination never to let it go.
My thoughts gradually blurred into nothingness, and without realizing it, my fingers dug into the firm muscles of his arm, my nails pressing against his skin.
“Say my name, Lianne.” His husky voice brushed against my ear, every movement slow, steady, and filled with quiet command.
“Ethan… Ethan…” I whispered his name over and over in a trembling voice, like someone drowning and clinging to the only thing keeping them afloat.
“I’m here.” Every time he answered, his voice remained gentle, reassuring, and unwavering.
Perhaps because the burden he’d carried for days had finally found somewhere to rest, Ethan fell into an unusually deep sleep.
Even after twilight swallowed the last traces of the setting sun, he showed no sign of waking.
Carefully, I slipped out from beneath the covers, doing my best not to make the slightest sound.
Downstairs, I tied on an apron and decided to prepare a few simple homemade dishes. As I listened to the soup quietly simmering on the stove, a long-forgotten feeling of peace slowly settled over my heart.
While I was chopping vegetables, I heard a faint rustle behind me. Turning around, I found Ethan leaning against the kitchen doorway. He was still wearing the slightly wrinkled shirt he’d slept in, the top buttons left undone, his sleepy eyes softened by a tenderness that was almost impossible to look away from.
