Chapter 835:
Her relentless taunts finally shattered the last of my restraint. In a single stride, I reached her, wrapped my hand around her throat, and slammed her against the cold wall.
A choked gasp escaped her lips as her face instantly turned crimson. The wineglass slipped from her fingers, crashing onto the floor in a shower of broken glass.
“I’ve spared you until now because the very thought of dealing with you disgusts me—not because I’m afraid of the leverage you think you have.” Leaning close enough for only her to hear, I whispered in a cold voice, “Lianne is my bottom line. The only reason I’ve tolerated you is because of our shared past. But if you ever use that condition to threaten me again, I swear you’ll be dead long before any antidote is ever finished.”
I released her without warning. She crumpled to the floor, coughing violently as she struggled to breathe. Without giving her another glance, I turned and walked out.

Back inside my car, my grip tightened around the steering wheel as I dialed Noah’s number. “How’s the antidote coming?”
“Alpha…” Noah answered heavily. “The lab has identified all the components, but the poison’s formula is incredibly complex—it’s like a perfectly sealed system. One mistake during the process could cause irreversible organ failure. At this point, the only real lead is Melisa herself, but she’s been extremely cautious. She hasn’t left behind a single record of the formula.”
I slowly closed my eyes as a dull ache spread through my chest. “Dig into everything connected to Melisa,” I ordered. “Every private account, every property she owns, and every pharmacist she’s ever had contact with.”
When I opened my eyes again, they held nothing but icy resolve. “I don’t care how difficult it is or what it costs. I want an antidote.”
Melisa believed my love for Lianne made me easy to control.
She thought she could keep using that weakness against me. She was wrong.
I would destroy the hold she believed she had over me. And I would make sure Lianne could live the peaceful life she deserved, free from her forever.
Lianne’s POV:
I had assumed Ethan had rushed back to the hospital to deal with everything after Rola’s surgery. There was no way Philip would let the situation settle quietly.
Since it was a family matter, I chose not to call or urge Ethan to come home. Instead, I stayed with Ruby and Silas while they finished their homework, then spent the evening putting together puzzles with them.
After the kids had gone upstairs to bed, I settled alone by the living room’s floor-to-ceiling window and opened my laptop again.
I loved sitting by that window. It overlooked the entire city, where countless neon lights stretched into the distance.
Whenever work became overwhelming, all I had to do was look up at the glowing skyline, and somehow the endless figures on my screen didn’t seem quite so exhausting.
