Chapter 843:
Unable to hold it in any longer, she finally asked cautiously, “Lianne… you’re scaring me. Did Ivy say something awful to upset you again?”
I smiled faintly, reached over, and gently squeezed her hand. “No.” I shook my head. “She didn’t.” I let out a quiet breath before continuing. “I’m just… a little emotional. That was the last time I’ll ever see her.” I turned to Tracy with a reassuring smile. “But don’t worry. I haven’t suddenly gone soft. She got exactly what she deserved, and I’ll never think otherwise.”
My voice softened. “I just… want to thank you, Tracy. Thank you for staying by my side and helping me through the darkest days of my life.”
The moment she heard those words, Tracy’s eyes instantly turned red. She tightened her grip around my hand, her voice thick with emotion. “Don’t say something so silly.” She sniffled with a smile. “We’re best friends. If I don’t stand by your side, whose side am I supposed to be on?”
Jeremy glanced at us through the rearview mirror before breaking into a teasing grin. “Looks like Tracy has officially claimed first place in your heart, Lianne.” He chuckled. “Poor Ethan’s been bumped down the list.”
Tracy rolled her eyes dramatically. “Well, obviously!” she declared proudly. “Friends stick with you through thick and thin. Men? They can change their minds at the drop of a hat, but besties are forever.”
Their easy banter gradually chased away the lingering heaviness in the car, and before I realized it, a small smile had found its way onto my face. Lowering my gaze, I unlocked my phone.
The wallpaper was still that candid side-profile photo I’d secretly taken of Ethan a few days earlier while he was working in the study. Golden sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, gently outlining his handsome features and making his usually cool expression look impossibly warm. Just looking at him was enough to make the corners of my lips lift ever so slightly.

Lianne’s POV:
A sudden thought struck me.
Only then did I truly realize that the peace, love, and unwavering devotion I enjoyed today were blessings that some people spent an entire lifetime yearning for, yet never managed to grasp.
Ivy had tried every possible means, paying the ultimate price in the end, but she still couldn’t earn so much as a single glance from Ethan. Meanwhile, I had been loved beyond measure, treasured by him as though I were the most precious person in his world.
Just then, my phone vibrated in my hand, Ethan’s name flashing across the screen.
The moment I answered, his anxious voice came through, the concern impossible to hide. “Did you meet with Ivy? Did she make things difficult for you? Are you okay?”
“It’s over,” I replied softly. “Before I left, she asked me to pass along a message. She said she wanted to see you one last time.”
A brief silence lingered on the other end before Ethan answered, his voice steady and resolute, “I won’t see her. Not in this lifetime.”
