Chapter 845:
After ending the call, I slowly lowered my phone and took a deep breath. When I turned around, my footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
I turned to find Ethan only a few feet away, his dark eyes unreadable as they held mine. I had no clue how much of that conversation he’d overheard—or how long he’d been standing there, watching.
He reached for my hand, but instead of leading me back to the private room, he stopped in front of me.
His searching gaze settled on mine as he asked in a low voice, “Tim called you, right? What happened?”
My heart skipped a beat. From the sound of it, he hadn’t overheard my conversation.
I forced a casual smile and brushed it off. “Nothing too serious. It’s just that the previous ruling might be overturned, and I may have another opportunity to appeal. But I don’t want to pile more worries onto your shoulders. I can deal with it myself.”
Something flickered across his eyes, as though he sensed there was more to the story, but he chose not to press the issue. Instead, he quietly tightened his hold on my hand and led me back into the private dining room.
As soon as we walked in, we found Jeremy busy taking care of Tracy. One moment he was placing food onto her plate, the next he was pouring her a drink or whispering sweet words to coax a smile out of her. Ever since giving birth, Tracy’s emotions had been all over the place, and Jeremy was practically bending over backward to keep her happy.
Although Tracy continued grumbling about how much he doted on their daughter, the smile tugging at the corners of her lips gave her away completely.

Watching the two of them, I couldn’t help smiling. Leaning closer to Ethan, I quietly told him about what had happened in the car earlier, including Jeremy’s heartfelt promise that Tracy would always come before their daughter.
Ethan chuckled softly, amusement dancing in his eyes. “Jeremy never mentioned that he once had feelings for Ivy.”
His comment caught me off guard for a moment. After a brief silence, I let out a quiet sigh. “Ivy’s feelings for you ran far deeper than any of us realized…” I lowered my eyes, my voice unconsciously softening. “Sometimes… I can’t help wondering if I took away the man she’d spent her whole life longing for.”
The instant those words left my mouth, Ethan’s movements came to a halt.
The fork in his hand paused midway before he gently placed it back on the table. Turning toward me, he looked straight into my eyes with unwavering seriousness.
“Lianne.” His voice was calm but firm. “We’re fated mates. You’re the only one I’ve ever loved. Everything I did for Ivy came from a sense of responsibility—nothing more. There was never love, and there never could be.” His gaze never wavered. “So don’t carry guilt that doesn’t belong to you.”
Meeting those sincere eyes, I felt warmth quietly spread through my chest.
