Chapter 852:
Without another word, he unfastened his seatbelt and reached for the door handle. “I’m going back to talk to her.”
“Ethan!” I hurriedly caught his arm before he could get out. “Don’t go. There’s no need.”
He turned to look at me, his eyes filled with both anger and concern. “She actually said something like that to you, and you still expect me to ignore it?”
I looked at him steadily and replied in a calm voice, “After everything that happened with Ivy, I’ve already thought this through. You’re the Alpha of the Thorn Pack, and you’re an exceptional man. It’s perfectly natural for women to fall for you. But as long as you never respond to those feelings, they can never come between us. I don’t want us wasting our energy doubting one another. Since we’ve chosen to spend our lives together, then we should trust each other.”
He held my gaze without speaking. The anger in his eyes gradually faded, replaced by emotions that were far more complicated.
After what felt like a long while, he quietly took my hand again, gently stroking the back of it with his thumb before saying in a low, slightly hoarse voice, “Alright. We’ll do as you say.”
I smiled softly, and the last trace of uneasiness lingering in my heart quietly disappeared.
We drove to a high-end restaurant afterward.
Without even opening the menu, Ethan effortlessly ordered dish after dish, every single one of them my favorite.
During dinner, he naturally cut my steak into bite-sized pieces before placing them on my plate. He peeled shrimp for me with practiced ease, as though these little acts of care had long since become second nature.

While we ate, he chatted about Ruby and Silas, laughing as he told me Ruby had recently become obsessed with roller coasters, while Silas stubbornly insisted that the carousel was still the most fun ride in the amusement park.
Listening to him casually talk about the children’s everyday lives filled me with an indescribable sense of warmth.
Whenever I was with Ethan, life always felt steady and peaceful. I never had to concern myself with the countless trivial matters of daily life because he always took care of everything before I even realized it needed attention.
After dinner, I excused myself and headed to the restroom. As I finished washing my hands, a faint fragrance drifted from the collar of my dress. I froze.
The scent was subtle, yet unmistakable. It was a floral perfume with a crisp, distinctive finish.
Recognition hit me almost immediately. It was exactly the same unfamiliar perfume I had smelled on Ethan before.
So that day, he hadn’t gone to the hospital because of Rola. He had gone to see Melisa.
I stood there motionless for several seconds as surprise, understanding, and a faint bitterness all surged through my heart at once.
But those emotions quickly settled. I understood why he’d kept it from me. He hadn’t lied because he wanted to deceive me. He had only been trying to protect me.
