Chapter 865:
His hair was a complete mess, and the color had drained from his face, making him look almost ghostly.
He stumbled straight to the emergency room doors. The instant he saw they were still tightly shut, all the strength seemed to leave his legs. He swayed unsteadily and caught himself against the wall before he could collapse.
“Ethan…” His voice shook uncontrollably. “I had a nightmare. I dreamed Rola died. I couldn’t calm down. I couldn’t even sleep, so I had to come.”
I quickly stood and caught him by the shoulders, helping him over to the bench.
Once seated, he rested his hands on his knees. His head hung low, and his shoulders quivered ever so slightly.
“I spent my entire life chasing money and status, only to realize in the end that none of it means a thing.” His voice was rough with exhaustion. “Rola has always treated me well, better than I deserved. When I was younger, I never appreciated it. I thought she was overbearing. I hated how she was always nagging me. But now…” His voice cracked. “If giving up everything I own, even my own life, could buy her back her health, I’d do it without thinking twice.”
His words struck something deep inside me. I understood exactly how he felt. Just as I would give up everything I had, including my own life, for Lianne without the slightest hesitation.

Philip slowly looked up at me, his eyes bloodshot. “Ethan, please forgive her.” His voice was filled with pleading. “She may have let everyone else down, but she’s never wronged you. She’s made countless mistakes throughout her life, but one thing has always been real. Her love for you has never been false.”
I lowered my eyes. After several seconds of silence, I finally answered in a quiet voice, “I know.”
The moment those words left my lips, the doors to the emergency room swung open.
The operating lights inside went dark.
The doctor stepped outside, pulling off his mask. Fatigue was written all over his face.
His gaze swept over us before he spoke the words I had feared hearing most. “I’m sorry, Alpha. We did everything we could.”
Those words crashed into me like a massive boulder. It felt as though something had crushed the air from my lungs.
Every ounce of strength drained from my body. I stood rooted to the spot, unable to move, as though even the blood flowing through my veins had frozen solid.
A loud ringing filled my ears. The doctor’s lips continued moving, but I couldn’t make out a single word after that.
Philip broke apart instantly.
He lunged forward, grabbing the doctor by the front of his coat. “What did you just say?” he shouted hoarsely. “Say it again! No, that’s impossible! Save her! You can’t stop now! You can’t!”
The doctor staggered backward under the force of his grip, and several nurses rushed over, trying to steady Philip while softly urging him to calm down.
