Chapter 881

Chapter 881:
Ruby clearly didn’t believe me. She grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the table, then pushed her glass of milk in front of me. “Daddy, drink my milk. It’ll help you become stronger!”
I picked up the glass and took a small sip. My throat tightened, and for a moment, I couldn’t find the words to respond.
Lianne walked out of the kitchen, and the moment she saw me sitting at the dining table, she halted.
A trace of uncertainty crossed her face as she looked at me carefully. Then she asked in a soft voice, “Are you… leaving?”
I placed the glass down and avoided her gaze. “Yes.”
The room was silent for a moment. Then she asked again, her voice even gentler than before, “Will you… come back tonight?”
My heart tightened.
There was something about the way she asked that hurt more than I expected. Her cautious, hopeful tone tugged at my heartstrings.
I wanted to answer, but before I could say anything, Ruby suddenly hugged my arm. She looked up at me with a serious expression and asked, “Daddy, can you come home tonight? I want to eat dinner with you.”
Silas also stopped eating and stared at me. His small face was filled with expectation.

I looked at Ruby, then at Silas. After a moment, I finally nodded. “Okay.”
The tension on Lianne’s face eased. A faint smile appeared at the corner of her lips, but she quickly hid it, as though she was afraid of letting her happiness show too clearly.
I stood up, straightened my collar, and walked toward the door.
When I reached the door, Lianne followed behind me. She hesitated for a moment, then said, “Ethan… I was thinking of going to the hospital to see Frank later.”
Ethan’s POV:
My hands paused as I was changing my shoes.
Frank.
The moment I heard his name, every bit of warmth inside me vanished, replaced by a chilling cold.
My chest grew heavy as warning signals blared through my mind. Without question, Frank was the most difficult rival I had ever encountered.
Now that he was severely injured because of Lianne, he had the perfect chance to use it to his advantage.
A man lying badly injured was at his weakest, desperate for comfort and someone to stay by his side. Given Lianne’s kind heart, there was no way she would not visit him.
I lifted my chin and masked every trace of emotion. In an even, indifferent tone, I replied, “Go ahead.”
If I was going to keep up this act, I couldn’t afford a single crack.
I opened the door and walked out. The moment I settled into the driver’s seat, I called Jeremy.
He answered immediately. I didn’t waste time on greetings. “What exactly happened to Frank?”
Jeremy was quiet for a brief moment before answering in a low voice. He explained that Frank had been attacked by rogues and suffered severe injuries. He was still confined to a hospital bed. After another pause, he continued in a quieter tone, “Ethan, there’s something else you need to know. While drifting in and out of consciousness, Frank kept calling Lianne’s name.”
