Chapter 884:
Tracy frowned as if she wanted to persuade him further, but Frank lifted a hand, quietly stopping her.
“I know you’re saying this because you care about me,” Frank said with a weak smile. “But I don’t want to keep lying to myself or to anyone else.”
Silence settled over the room for a long while.
Perhaps sensing that the atmosphere had become too heavy, Tracy casually steered the conversation in another direction. With a lighter tone, she asked, “By the way, Lianne, why didn’t Ethan come with you?”
I paused for a brief moment.
The growing distance between Ethan and me came crashing back into my mind like a relentless wave.

Keeping my expression calm, I forced a faint smile. “He’s been really busy. The company has had a lot to deal with lately.”
Frank leaned against the headboard, his eyes fixed on me with an emotion I couldn’t quite understand.
He spoke in a low voice, almost as though he were talking to himself. “The two of you have such a strong relationship. As long as Ethan never chooses to walk away… I’ll never have a chance.”
His words left me speechless, and I could only stand there in silence.
Lianne’s POV:
After I got home from the hospital, I quickly finished the project I had been working on. Ethan was probably occupied with Rola’s affairs and his own work, so I didn’t want to add to his burden.
Once I completed the final document, I instinctively opened the Voss Group’s admin panel and stared at his enterprise account for a long time.
It indicated that he was currently online.
I remembered the promise he had made to the kids that morning, saying he would come home after work. A faint sense of anticipation stirred in my heart.
I turned off the computer and began straightening up the house. Knowing how much Ethan valued cleanliness, I carefully tidied the living room, bedroom, and the kids’ room. I even checked the gaps between the sofa cushions to make sure not a single crumb was left. I wanted the house to feel warm, comfortable, and welcoming when he came home.
Just as I sat down to rest, Tracy called.
She didn’t waste any time getting to the point. “Lianne, you seem a little off today. Did you and Ethan get into an argument because of Rola’s passing?” she asked with concern.
I leaned against the couch and answered softly, “No. He’s just having a hard time and dealing with a lot right now, so we’ve naturally grown a little distant.”
There was a brief silence before Tracy spoke again, clearly annoyed on my behalf. “Even so, that’s no excuse for him to treat you this way. Just because he’s in a bad mood doesn’t mean he can shut you out. He shouldn’t take his frustrations out on you.”
Warmth filled my heart when I heard the genuine concern in her voice.
