Chapter 887:
But none of that mattered anymore. All I wanted was to keep our family together and hold on to him. I rose from my seat, walked toward him, and pleaded softly, “Ethan, can’t we just sleep together? I’ve been waiting for you all evening…”
He didn’t even look at me. His voice remained cold and distant. “I need some peace and quiet.”
The words choked me, and a sharp sting of bitterness surged in my heart.
However, I refused to retreat. I forced a faint smile and spoke as casually as I could. “Then I’ll sleep in the guest room with you. I promise I’ll be completely quiet. I won’t disturb you at all.”
Ethan looked visibly taken aback. He stared at me with surprise and resignation. Clearly, he hadn’t expected me to humble myself to this extent.
Before he could reject me, I took advantage of the moment and quickly headed toward the guest room.
“Lianne!” His voice came from behind me.

I didn’t turn around. I opened the door, walked in, and stopped beside the bed.
Then I looked back at him with a smile. “I’ll sleep on the left, and you can have the right. I promise I won’t bother you.”
He stayed in the doorway and fixed his eyes on me with a frown.
Before he could say anything, I quickly climbed into bed and pulled the blanket up to my chin, leaving only my eyes exposed as I looked at him. I knew I must have looked miserable, but at that moment, I couldn’t bring myself to care. As long as I could be by his side, I was willing to set aside my pride.
Ethan’s POV:
As I watched Lianne walk into the guest bedroom, I rubbed my temples as my heart ached.
I never thought that someone as proud and distant as her would one day lower herself so willingly for my sake.
Dressed in soft pajamas, her long hair spilled loosely over her shoulders. She tucked herself beneath the blanket, leaving only her eyes visible as she looked at me.
I wanted nothing more than to walk over, pull her into my arms, and tell her she didn’t have to force herself to be so considerate. She didn’t need to keep accommodating me.
But the moment that thought came into my mind, I recalled Melisa and the antidote.
The warmth in my heart disappeared, swallowed by a crushing heaviness.
I had to keep up my act. I had to keep pretending to be cold until the very end. Only then could I get the antidote from Melisa and save Lianne.
Forcing down the emotions threatening to overwhelm me, I walked into the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed cold water over my face.
I stayed there for a long time. After the restless heat surging through me finally settled, I dried my hair and walked back out.
Lianne was lying quietly on the bed, and had even switched her phone to vibrate.
Curled on her side with her back facing me, she breathed so softly that it seemed she was afraid of making the slightest sound that might disturb me.
Seeing how carefully she was trying to avoid upsetting me made my heart ache.
