Chapter 900:
Yet I remained trapped in the same place mentally, tormented by Ethan’s final words. “Let’s break up.” They kept replaying inside my head. Each time, they seemed to cut a little deeper. It wasn’t until around five in the morning that exhaustion finally dragged me into a shallow, uneasy sleep. I hadn’t even slept for three hours when my phone rang again. Still half-asleep, I reached blindly for it. The moment I saw Tracy’s name, a strange sense of dread settled over me. I answered immediately.
“Lianne!” Tracy’s voice was tight with urgency. “I just got to the hospital to see Frank, but something’s wrong. He won’t eat or drink anything. I’ve tried everything I can think of, but he won’t listen to me.” Her voice cracked with desperation. “Can you come to the hospital? Please, Lianne. I’m begging you.”
The sleep vanished from me instantly. I sat upright in bed. “I’m coming.”
I barely took the time to wash my face before throwing on some clothes and rushing outside to find a cab. Throughout the entire journey, my thoughts raced uncontrollably.
Frank’s injuries had been severe from the beginning. His leg still hadn’t recovered completely.

What if refusing food and water caused another health problem? What if his body couldn’t handle it after everything he’d already been through?
The more I thought about it, the more anxious I became. I forced myself to stop imagining the worst and hurried into the hospital as soon as the cab arrived.
I went straight to Frank’s ward. But the instant I pushed the door open and saw what was inside, I stopped dead in my tracks.
Lianne’s POV:
Frank was propped comfortably against the headboard, a glass of warm water resting in his hand. His expression was remarkably composed, while a half-eaten breakfast sat on the nightstand beside him.
He certainly didn’t look like someone who was starving himself.
The realization hit me almost immediately. Frank had orchestrated it. He told Tracy to use that lie to bring me here.
Tracy stood beside his bed, looking distinctly uncomfortable. She wouldn’t meet my eyes, and after a moment of awkward silence, she hurriedly came up with an excuse. “I’ll go downstairs and get some coffee.”
Before I could say anything, she slipped out of the room, intentionally leaving Frank and me alone.
I let out a quiet sigh and walked over to the chair beside his bed before lowering myself into it. “You didn’t have to trick me into coming here.”
Frank placed the glass on the nightstand and turned his attention to me. The warmth in his eyes hadn’t changed. “If I had simply told you that I wanted to see you, would you have come?”
I couldn’t answer. There was no point arguing because I knew he was right.
Given everything happening between Ethan and me, I should have been keeping my distance from Frank. The last thing I wanted was to drag him into the complicated mess.
I lowered my gaze and deliberately changed the subject. “I heard you’re leaving the country. How is your leg now?”
“It’s still giving me a little trouble, but nothing serious.” Frank smiled reassuringly. “I’m going overseas for rehabilitation. Give it a few months, and I should be able to recover completely.”
I was genuinely relieved to hear that. “That’s wonderful. I hope everything goes well and that you can get back to living normally soon.”
