Chapter 901:
Frank didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he quietly studied my face for a long time. Then concern gradually appeared in his eyes. “Lianne, you’ve lost weight.” His voice softened. “You don’t look well either. Have you been eating properly?”
I casually brushed off his concern. “Work has been hectic lately. I just haven’t had much of an appetite.”
Frank shook his head. “You’re not telling me the truth.” His tone was calm, and there was absolute certainty behind it. “You and Ethan had a fight, didn’t you?”
My heart skipped a beat. I instinctively denied it. “No. We’re fine.”
Frank kept looking at me as though he could see straight through the lie. “Ethan used to hate leaving you alone with me. Whenever the two of us happened to be together, he’d find some excuse to come over and take you away.” He paused. “But we’ve been sitting here for quite a while today, and your phone hasn’t made a sound. No messages. No calls. Nothing.”
I parted my lips, but no response came to me. There was nothing I could say that would disprove what he had just pointed out. Frank’s voice became gentler, though his words remained firm. “Prove me wrong and call him.” He held my gaze. “If he picks up and speaks to you the way he always has, I’ll never bring this up again.”

The room fell completely silent.
I avoided his gaze entirely. When I managed to find my voice, it came out laced with bitterness. “Frank, just focus on your recovery. I’d appreciate it if you stayed out of my personal life from now on.”
A trace of frustration and pain surfaced in his eyes. He lowered his head, and when he spoke again, his voice was barely above a murmur. “I tried to move on.” His fingers tightened slightly. “I tried giving my heart to Jane, but I failed to feel anything for her. Lianne, I’ve tried. I really have.”
Something sour and painful rose in my chest.
I stared at him without speaking. For a long time, neither of us said anything.
Eventually, I forced myself to voice the truth I knew would hurt him the most. “Frank, I know how you feel about me.” I took a breath, suppressing the heaviness in my chest. “Even if things with Ethan were really done for good, I could never be with you.”
After leaving the hospital, I decided to make a stop at Voss Group.
During the drive, a thought kept circling through my mind. Perhaps I should start taking some of my belongings back to my apartment.
One thing at a time. Until there was nothing left behind that proved I had ever belonged there.
