Chapter 905:
“I can’t.” His tone was quiet, almost casual, yet every word pierced straight through me. “We’ll leave it there.”
The line went dead.
I remained frozen as the monotonous tone sounded against my ear. Slowly, my arm fell to my side.
Something inside me seemed to collapse completely.
I had wanted to hold on to our relationship, but I couldn’t bring myself to surrender whatever remained of my dignity.
I sat motionless on the chilly floor, drawing my knees against my chest as tears continued pouring down my face.
Eventually, I called Tracy. My voice broke the moment she answered. “Tracy… I lied to you. Ethan and I didn’t reconcile. He doesn’t want me anymore…”
She reached the villa less than twenty minutes later.

The moment she entered and saw me sitting there, her eyes immediately filled with tears.
She rushed over and wrapped me in her arms. I buried my face against her shoulder and broke down, sobbing like a child who had nowhere else to turn.
She gently rubbed my back. “It’s okay. It’s okay. I’m here with you.”
I cried until my throat burned and there were barely any tears left. Then Tracy suddenly pulled away and headed for the door, anger replacing the sorrow in her expression. “I’m going to find Ethan. I want him to explain exactly what he’s doing. I’m going to ask him myself!”
I reached out and caught her wrist. “Don’t…” My voice came out cracked and weak. “Tracy, please don’t go.”
She turned toward me, her eyes still swollen and red. “Why not? You’re just going to sit here and let him treat you this way?”
I slowly shook my head. “I don’t want to throw away the little dignity I have left. I don’t want the children caught in the middle. And I don’t want to humiliate myself by begging him to stay.”
Tracy stared at me helplessly as tears slipped down her cheeks. “Lianne, you’ve been carrying too much. It’s breaking me to watch…”
I managed a faint smile, though my voice remained hoarse. “I was the one who kept talking about ending things. I said those words so casually, without considering how much they must have hurt him. Now that he’s finally chosen to walk away, maybe this is simply what I deserve.”
Tracy looked furious on my behalf, but I had nothing left in me to fight with.
Everything seemed to point toward Melisa. And the fact that Ethan wouldn’t explain himself, that told me everything I needed to know.
I rested my head against Tracy’s shoulder and closed my eyes. “I’ve let go of everything,” I whispered. “Completely. There’s nothing left for me to hold on to.”
Tracy simply wrapped her arms around me.
When I opened my eyes again, my gaze drifted toward the gray sky beyond the window. My voice was strangely calm. “I’ve decided to cut myself off from anything connected to Ethan. Whatever I once felt for him has turned cold. The passion I used to hold onto has burned away completely. From this point forward, I won’t allow myself to fall in love with anyone again.”
Tracy lowered her head against my shoulder, her body trembling as she quietly cried.
I reached around and gave her back a gentle pat. “Don’t cry. I’m okay.”
