Chapter 908:
Then my attention returned to Ethan. I forced myself to remain calm as I spoke. “You were the person who wanted to end things with me. So why do you think you can decide where I go now?”
Ethan’s eyes dropped. He didn’t answer immediately. After several unbearable seconds of silence, he finally spoke. His voice was colder than usual, carrying a sternness I’d never heard from him before. “We settled this already. The children remain with the Thorn Pack. You’re not taking them away.”
I stared at him.
For several seconds, I couldn’t process what I’d just heard. Then the pain hit. It spread through me like icy water, leaving every part of me numb. I had never imagined Ethan could use those words against me.
My lips parted, but my mind had gone completely empty.
Tracy couldn’t contain herself any longer. She shook with fury as her voice climbed. “Ethan, how can you possibly be this cruel? Do you have any idea what Lianne endured because of you? She once loved you enough to sacrifice everything for you. Do you know what she went through bringing those children into the world? And now you’re holding them over her head to force her into submission? You really are shameless!”
Ethan remained motionless. He didn’t defend himself. He didn’t even lift his eyes toward either of us.

I took a slow breath and reached for Tracy’s hand. My voice came out rough and exhausted. “Tracy, please go home.”
Her expression changed immediately. “Lianne…”
I squeezed her fingers and looked at her helplessly. “Please, I don’t want our problems causing trouble between you and Jeremy.”
She stared at me for a long moment. Her eyes glistened with tears.
Eventually, she pressed her lips together, nodded, picked up her handbag, and headed toward the entrance.
At the doorway, she stopped. She looked back at me, struggling to keep her voice from breaking. “Call me whenever you need me.”
The door closed behind her. A short while later, the faint roar of an engine reached us. I turned toward the window. Jeremy’s vehicle had stopped outside. He stepped out, intercepted Tracy before she could get far, and exchanged a few words with her. Whatever she said seemed to have no effect. He eventually took hold of her and led her toward the vehicle. Then they drove away.
The enormous house became eerily still. There was no one left except Ethan and me.
We stood several feet apart. The quiet was almost unbearable.
Once, having the house to ourselves had been something we desperately longed for. Now, that same privacy felt suffocating. I looked across the room. Ethan remained near the entrance with his head lowered. His face revealed nothing.
I finally broke the silence. “I’m not leaving the children behind. I’ve already failed them once, and I won’t make the same mistake. Whatever happens between you and me, I won’t walk away from them again.”
Ethan slowly lifted his head. He watched me without speaking. After what felt like an eternity, his expression softened slightly. “If you stay, they’re yours.”
