Chapter 911:
Before I could take another step, Ethan caught my wrist. His fingers closed tightly around me, and the familiar warmth of his skin sent an unsettling ache through my chest. I tried to pull free. “Let go of me! You asked for this separation. You were the one who pushed me away. Yet now you’re the one refusing to release me. Why? What exactly are you trying to accomplish?”
I met his eyes, my expression strangely calm despite everything raging inside me. “I used to be the person who would do anything to bring you back. I fought for you with everything I had. Now I’m the same woman wishing you would disappear from my life. I knew Rola’s death hit you hard and that you needed time to recover. I thought perhaps we would finally find our way back to each other. Instead, I ended up facing a separation and betrayal.”
His hold refused to loosen. I looked at him for a long moment before speaking slowly. “Ethan, if you intend to keep me, then don’t release my hand. But if you’re unwilling to stay with me, then let me go. Stop giving me false hope.”
He fell silent.
I didn’t give him another opportunity to answer. With a sharp movement, I pulled my hand from his grasp. “Get out.”
Ethan stared at me for several moments. His lips parted as though there were words he wanted to say, but nothing came. Eventually, he turned around and walked away.
The door clicked shut behind him. The instant he was gone, whatever strength had kept me standing vanished. I leaned against the wall before slowly sinking to the floor.
Then I covered my face and finally allowed myself to cry.
In the days that followed, the villa became unbearable. His presence seemed to linger everywhere.
In the living room stood his favorite seat, the one where he would sit and read. The kitchen still reminded me of the mornings when he would prepare coffee for me. Even the staircase brought back memories of the times he had lifted me into his arms and carried me upstairs. Nothing had changed, yet every familiar place felt like another wound.
I had already decided that I would take the children overseas and leave this house, this pack, and these memories behind. But whenever I mentioned the plan, Silas somehow managed to steer the conversation elsewhere.

Then, one afternoon, the children came home from school. I prepared their favorite meal and sat across from them while they ate. Watching their innocent faces, I brought up the subject again.
After setting down my utensils, I deliberately made my voice light. “Silas, Ruby, I’ve been thinking about taking you both abroad for a while. We could live somewhere new together. Would you like that?”
Silas immediately placed his spoon on the table and said gently, “Mom, I don’t want to go. I have friends here and people I’m used to being around. I don’t want to leave everything behind and move somewhere I’ve never been. I’d have to start over and get used to a completely different life.”
My chest tightened. For a fleeting moment, suspicion crept into my mind. Had Ethan already spoken to him privately?
But when I met my son’s clear, innocent gaze, shame immediately followed. He was my child. I had no right to doubt him simply because I was hurting.
