Chapter 920:
But his gaze was distant and unfocused, his pupils drifting aimlessly. He was clearly lost in a hallucination. He lifted his head toward me, his lips parting faintly, his voice so fragile it was barely audible. “Don’t be afraid… I’ll save you… even if it costs me everything…”
My eyes flooded with tears instantly. I drew him closer, tightening my arms around him as my voice broke. “Don’t speak. The ambulance is coming.”
Pressed against my chest, he kept rambling, his words disjointed and barely coherent. “I’ll save you… don’t be afraid… don’t be afraid…”
I lowered my head, pressing my face into his damp, sweat-soaked hair, and the tears I’d been holding back finally broke free.
Such a fool.
The sting of antiseptic still saturated the hospital corridors, that same harsh, cloying scent that always clawed at my nerves and left me restless.

I never thought I’d come back to this place for Ethan. The last time I set foot in this hospital was because of Rola.
And now, the one lying in that hospital bed was Ethan.
In the hallway, Noah paced restlessly, his nerves getting the better of him. Not bold enough to notify the Thorn Pack elders on his own, he could only keep watch outside in anxious agitation.
His endless pacing was grating on my nerves. “Noah, for heaven’s sake, stop moving. You’re making my head throb.”
Noah stopped, casting me a glance that seemed to hold unspoken words, yet he held back.
I leaned back against the wall, and the words Ethan had kept murmuring before he lost consciousness, “I’ll save you. Don’t be afraid,” circled endlessly in my head, churning up a tangle of feelings I couldn’t quite name. I couldn’t stop myself from asking Noah in a low voice, “Was he confusing me with someone else? Did he think I was Melisa?”
Lianne’s POV:
Noah fell silent for a moment before answering carefully, “Maybe… Alpha was confused at the time and mistook you for Melisa.”
I nodded, choosing not to question him further, yet an uneasy sensation remained lodged in my chest. Something about the situation felt wrong, though I couldn’t identify what.
I offered the suggestion casually. “Why don’t you call Melisa? She’s a doctor. Maybe she can determine what’s happening to Ethan.”
Noah immediately took my words the wrong way and rushed to explain. “Ms. Riley, please don’t misunderstand. There really isn’t anything between Alpha and Miss Davis. He…”
“Noah,” I cut him off gently. “I’m not jealous. Ethan and I are no longer together. His relationships are none of my concern. I only thought Melisa might be able to help because she’s a doctor.”
Noah looked at me with evident surprise, his lips parting slightly before he seemed to lose whatever response had been forming.
After a brief silence, he finally said, “I’ll have someone bring Ruby and Silas here. You can stay with Alpha without having to worry about the children.”
I thought it over for a while before giving a small nod.
Whatever had happened between Ethan and me, he remained the father of my children. I couldn’t simply walk away while he lay unconscious in a hospital bed.
