Chapter 925:
Ethan’s POV:
The instant Melisa entered the room, irritation surged through me.
She appeared in a white dress with a medical file tucked against her arm, wearing the polished smile of a professional physician. To anyone else, she might have looked like a capable doctor arriving to care for her patient.
I knew better. I couldn’t even be bothered pretending to be courteous. “Get out.”
She stopped briefly before continuing toward the bed and placing the file on the nearby table. Her expression took on a wounded look. “Ethan, Noah asked me to come. You’ve been poisoned, and I’m a doctor. What’s wrong with me examining you?”
“There’s no need.” My voice remained cold. “Leave.”

She ignored me. Instead, she dragged a chair closer to the bed and sat down. Turning toward me, she sighed. “Ethan, I’ve saved your life twice. The first time was when the silver blade struck your chest, and now I’ve come here for you again. I don’t understand why you insist on treating me with such hostility.”
Her self-righteous speech was almost amusing.
From beginning to end, she focused on defending herself while carefully skirting around the fact that she had poisoned Lianne. According to her, she had merely wanted to escape the bond her family had arranged for her. She claimed she had never intended to hurt anyone. She delivered the story with such conviction that her eyes even reddened slightly, as though she were the unfortunate victim of circumstances beyond her control. I said nothing. I simply watched her continue the performance.
After gauging my silence, she lowered her voice and tried another approach. “Ethan, I’ll give Lianne the final antidote in a few days. I always honor my promises. I just need you to understand that I’m not cruel. I only did what I did because my family left me with no other option.”
My fingers moved slightly against the sheets before I forced them still, suppressing the excitement churning beneath my calm exterior.
The final antidote. At last, she was willing to hand it over.
Ethan’s POV:
I couldn’t afford to show even the slightest emotion, or everything I’d set in motion would fall apart.
I kept my expression blank and my manner distant, responding to Melisa with deliberate indifference. “Do whatever you want.”
She noticed the faint shift in my attitude and immediately pressed. “So you really don’t care about Lianne’s condition anymore?”
There was a taunting edge beneath her words. “You once loved her more than anyone. Now, you don’t even seem concerned about whether she’s well or not. Ethan, you’ve become incredibly heartless.”
I had no intention of entertaining her any longer. My voice turned colder as I cut her off. “Finished? Then get out.”
For several seconds, she remained seated, studying me in silence. Eventually, she rose and walked out without another word.
Once the door shut behind her, I listened until the sound of her heels disappeared into the corridor.
Only then did I stop pretending to be helpless. Fighting through the weakness weighing down my limbs, I pushed myself upright and yanked the IV needle from my hand.
