Chapter 929:
“What right do you have to question me?” I demanded, pulling against his hold. “You’re the one who walked away first. You chose Melisa over me. And now you’re standing here acting like you have any claim over who I spend time with? Don’t you hear how absurd that sounds?”
I met his eyes without flinching. “And even if Frank and I are together, that’s none of your business. I’m not with you anymore.”
He said nothing. His mouth tightened, but his fingers remained locked around my wrist.
Lowering my voice so the children wouldn’t overhear, I warned, “Release me. I’m not arguing with you where the kids can hear.”
“So it’s really Frank?” he pressed, ignoring my words. “Or are you planning to bring some stranger home and make him their new father?”
That was the final straw.
The tears came before I could stop them.

Looking directly at him, I spoke through the ache in my chest. “Ethan, you were the one who left. You threw everything away for Melisa. I’ve carried every bit of this pain by myself. I didn’t chase after you. I didn’t burden anyone with my heartbreak. I’ve done everything I could to move on, but you won’t stop pulling me back. What is it that you actually want from me?”
Ethan fell silent. His expression changed the instant he saw the tears running down my face.
Countless emotions crossed his features before settling into something unreadable.
At last, he spoke so quietly I almost missed it. “I’m sorry.”
For one brief moment, I believed he had finally accepted reality and would walk away with what little dignity remained.
Instead, everything changed in an instant. Without warning, he pushed me back against the wall, trapping my wrists above my head. The movement was so sudden I couldn’t even react. Before I understood what was happening, his lips crashed onto mine with overwhelming force.
I fought back immediately, biting down hard on his tongue.
The sharp taste of blood filled my mouth. Even then, he refused to pull away.
Ignoring the pain, he kissed me with desperate intensity, as though nothing else existed.
I shoved against him, struck his shoulders, tried everything I could to force him back, but he stood like solid stone, leaving me pinned in the corner with nowhere to escape.
During the struggle, I caught sight of his eyes. They were red.
The realization stunned me long enough for my resistance to falter.
When he finally ended the kiss, he stepped away.
I remained against the wall, dragging in shaky breaths while my pulse hammered wildly in my chest. My gaze drifted from the crimson in his eyes to the streak of blood still marking his lips.
My thoughts refused to settle. I couldn’t understand this man anymore.
Coming back to my senses, I immediately put space between us.
Brushing the blood from the corner of my mouth, I forced my voice to remain steady. “Ethan, what we had ended a long time ago. Leave now, and don’t come back.”
He rested against the wall, watching me. “If I go, the kids will be upset.”
“That’s something you created, not me.” I deliberately looked away. “The day you decided to leave us, this outcome should have been obvious.”
