Chapter 931:
There was hesitation on Tracy’s end before she spoke again. “Lianne, you know what Frank is like. Once he decides something, it’s almost impossible to change his mind. He told me that if you refuse to come, he’ll come over himself.”
Alarm surged through me, and I blurted out, “Don’t let him come!”
Ethan was still at my place. If Frank showed up now, everything could turn into a disaster.
The thought of them meeting again made my stomach tighten. One was the man I had once loved, while the other was the friend I trusted most. They had already confronted each other because of me before. If they ended up in the same room tonight, I couldn’t imagine what would happen. My fingers tightened around the phone, and moisture gathered across my palms.
Across the room, Ethan was watching me.
His stare carried a chilling intensity, so sharp that I felt as though it could cut through every excuse I had prepared. I instinctively retreated a step.
The unexpected kiss earlier had left me deeply unsettled. I had no intention of allowing him another opportunity to cross that line.
I said coldly, “Why are you standing so close to me?”

Ethan ignored my question. His restrained anger was unmistakable. “Are you actually planning to meet Frank?”
I moved around him. “Whatever I choose to do is none of your concern. If you’re still feeling sick, return to the hospital. Don’t stay here and make a scene.”
He followed immediately and seized my arm. “You’re not going.”
I turned toward him, almost unable to believe what I was hearing. “Ethan, our relationship has ended. I don’t need your permission before meeting someone.”
My words left him speechless. His mouth opened slightly, but nothing followed.
I used the silence to make my point even clearer. “Frank has been part of Ruby and Silas’s lives after they were born. They love and trust him. If I ever decided that my children needed a father figure, he’d be a much better choice than anyone else.”
The expression on Ethan’s face changed instantly.
He closed the distance between us and forced me back against the wall. His hand tightened around my wrist. It wasn’t enough to cause pain, but the strength behind it made it obvious that he had no intention of releasing me. I tried pulling away. It didn’t work.
To my relief, Silas had taken Ruby into their bedroom, leaving only Ethan and me in the living room. He still didn’t loosen his hold.
He bent toward me, and when he finally spoke, his voice was unusually subdued. There was even a hint of vulnerability in it. “Lianne, please don’t go to Frank.”
I raised my eyes to his. “Why not? Give me one good reason.”
Several seconds passed, and he said nothing. His Adam’s apple shifted as he swallowed, yet he remained unable to form an answer.
