Chapter 937:
Melisa’s eyebrows lifted, evidently caught off guard by how directly I questioned her.
After a brief pause, she answered lightly, “You don’t need to worry about something like that. Ethan has me looking after him, and I’ll make sure he gets better.”
“I’m the mother of his children,” I reminded her, meeting her gaze without flinching. “I have every right to know what is happening with him.”
“The mother of his children?” Melisa echoed, a knowing smile appearing at the corner of her mouth. “That’s all you are. I’m the one who will remain at his side, not you.”
After a short pause, she continued, “And besides, your children haven’t even been formally accepted into the pack yet, have they?”
The pride in her voice was unmistakable. She was deliberately emphasizing her status as Ethan’s fiancée while taking a veiled jab at my children, treating them as outsiders who didn’t truly belong.

Her words struck a raw nerve, and anger tightened my chest. Still, I forced myself to remain calm rather than lose control in front of her.
My silence appeared to satisfy Melisa. She reached into her handbag, pulled out a small glass vial, set it on the table, and pushed it across to me. A transparent liquid filled the vial, catching the afternoon light with a faint shimmer.
“What is this?”
“Medicine,” she replied. “Ethan specifically asked me to have it prepared for you. It should help relieve the dizziness and hallucinations you’ve continued to experience.”
Suspicion immediately tightened its grip on me. There was no way I believed Melisa had offered me the medicine out of genuine kindness. I stared at the vial without reaching for it.
Seeing my hesitation, Melisa let out a soft laugh. “You don’t have to be so wary of me. It’s not like I’m giving this to you because I care about you. I just don’t want Ethan worrying about your health and constantly running off to check on you. Every time he goes to see you, it puts me in an awkward position.”
My fingers shook faintly as I finally picked up the vial and slipped it into my bag. Putting on a courteous smile, I said, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Melisa lifted her glass and took another sip, her expression indifferent. “Just don’t keep hanging onto Ethan anymore. You won’t be attending our mating ceremony, so there’s no need for you to prepare a present.”
I said nothing else. I rose from my seat and turned to leave.
I had almost reached the restaurant entrance when Melisa’s voice stopped me. “Lianne!”
I came to a halt, though I kept my back to her.
There was a strange mixture of emotions in her voice when she spoke again. “I used to envy you. The way Ethan looks at you is something I’ve never experienced myself. But you were the one who chose to push him away. So you don’t get to blame anyone else now.”
