Chapter 944:
Lianne’s POV:
Ethan stood at the stove in a pale apron, the fabric stretched neatly across his frame while his sleeves were pushed above his forearms. He was busy preparing breakfast.
Golden morning sunlight streamed through the window and traced the outline of his broad, upright figure. Even in such a modest kitchen, there was something striking about him. He carried an effortless blend of authority and warmth that was impossible to ignore.
Ruby and Silas occupied their usual places at the dining table. Ruby had already started on her toast when she spotted me. “Mommy! Daddy made peanut butter toast! It’s super delicious!”
Her cheerful announcement made Ethan turn around. His eyes settled on me, and his usually commanding voice softened. “Good morning.”
“Morning.”
I crossed the room and looked over the spread. Each piece of toast had been browned just right, coated with a smooth layer of peanut butter. Beside them sat a dish of freshly cut fruit and two steaming cups of milk.
A smile crept onto my face. “Since when did you become so good at preparing breakfast?”
“Just recently,” he answered without looking away from the stove, using the spatula to turn the eggs.
Only then did I realize he had changed into a crisp black suit. His dark hair had been carefully arranged, giving him a polished and remarkably refreshed appearance.
I rested against the kitchen entrance and looked him over from head to toe. “Did Noah bring those clothes?”
Ethan transferred the eggs onto a plate before passing it to me. “Yes. He stopped by first thing this morning. He was concerned that I wouldn’t have anything decent to wear today.”
I accepted the dish with an amused look. “Noah really does have a difficult job. He has to keep adjusting to all the times we break up and get back together.”

A quiet laugh escaped Ethan, but he offered no reply. Instead, he reached for a napkin. He crouched beside Ruby and gently cleaned the smear of peanut butter at the corner of her lips. His actions were so natural and careful that it was obvious he had done it countless times before. Ruby obediently lifted her little chin. “Thank you, Daddy.”
The affection shining in Ethan’s eyes as he watched her tugged unexpectedly at something inside me. The sight was so tender that my heart softened before I could stop it.
I placed the plate down and spoke as casually as I could. “By the way, I’m going to pack everything here and move back today.”
Ethan immediately raised his gaze. “I’ll rearrange my schedule and help you.”
I shook my head. “There’s no need. You should take care of your work. I can manage.”
He watched me quietly for several seconds. It seemed as though he had something else he wanted to say, but eventually, he gave a small nod. “Alright. Just don’t push yourself too hard. If there’s too much to handle, leave it until I get home.”
I smiled. “Okay. I’m capable of taking care of myself.”
His eyes dropped to his watch. A moment later, he reached over and gave Silas a gentle pat on the shoulder. “Come on. We’re leaving. I’ll drive you to school.”
Ruby instantly slid down from her seat and hurried over, wrapping her little hand around his.
Silas followed without complaint, lifting his backpack onto his shoulders.
