Chapter 952:
Ethan’s POV:
“It’s because of Miss Riley…” Noah shook his head, irritation evident in his voice. “She caused another scene yesterday. Can you believe she actually demanded half of the Voss Group’s shares? She said that she had given Alpha two children and that she deserved something in return. After everything she’d sacrificed, she wasn’t about to walk away empty-handed. Alpha was furious. He barely slept last night, and when he arrived this morning, he looked like he was ready to explode.”
Melisa’s brows drew together. “Lianne is really acting that unreasonable? I thought she’d already moved out and stopped bothering Ethan.”
“She left, but that hasn’t stopped the problems.” Noah gave a weary shrug. “And that’s only part of it. She keeps claiming the children are unwell just to get Alpha running back to her. Yet every time he rushes over, he finds them perfectly healthy. She’s clearly inventing excuses because she wants his attention. These days, whenever her name appears on his phone, Alpha looks like he’s developed a headache. He can’t decide whether to answer her call.”
Melisa sighed softly, sympathy slipping into her voice. “Ethan really has been having a hard time because of her.”

“Exactly.” Noah nodded, sounding increasingly irritated on my behalf. “I’ve been working for Alpha for years, and I’ve never watched anyone push him this far. Let’s not talk about Lianne anymore. Just thinking about everything she’s done is enough to get my blood boiling.”
Melisa remained quiet for several moments before finally asking the question she had clearly been holding back. “Does Ethan still love her?”
Noah hesitated, then shook his head. “I can’t claim to know exactly what’s in Alpha’s heart. But if you ask me, I think all that’s left is frustration. Who could tolerate being pestered day after day? I certainly couldn’t. And you know better than anyone how much Alpha hates being pressured or threatened. Dragging the children into their problems has crossed the line.”
Melisa said nothing. Through the security feed, however, I caught the brief curve of her lips. Relief. That was what I saw in her expression. She believed every word.
In her mind, whatever remained between Lianne and me had finally collapsed beyond repair. She probably thought there was no possibility of us finding our way back to each other. She needed to believe that every compromise I’d made before was genuine, every apparent change of heart a real surrender rather than a carefully constructed test designed to expose her intentions.
I shut off the surveillance monitor and sank deeper into my chair, my eyes drifting toward the ceiling.
There was no satisfaction in deceiving her. But none of that mattered.
As long as Lianne and the children remained safe, I was willing to play along with Melisa.
I took my time. Melisa could wait a little longer.
She couldn’t be allowed to believe that possessing leverage over me meant she could dictate my every move. I needed her to understand that I was still the one controlling the situation, not her.
That was why I’d deliberately left her downstairs all morning without responding to a single message.
Only after I knew her patience was nearly exhausted did I activate the intercom and tell Noah to send her upstairs.
When the office door opened, I was still going through a report with my head lowered. I didn’t acknowledge her arrival immediately.
