Chapter 962:
Lianne’s POV:
That evening, I was surprised when Melisa called me.
Her voice came through the phone dripping with condescension, as though she were speaking to some problematic beggar. “Lianne, let’s not waste each other’s time. Tell me what you want. Once you get it, stay away from Ethan. I don’t want to see you bothering him again.”
I tightened my grip on the phone and smirked to myself. Then I immediately played along.
Putting on a deliberately greedy and calculating voice, I said, “You want to know what I want? At least half of Ethan’s assets. I gave birth to his children, sacrificed my youth for him, and now he thinks he can just abandon me? He can keep dreaming!”
Melisa’s tone instantly hardened. “You certainly know how to ask for a lot.”
“A lot?” I laughed coldly. “You’re just the mistress. What makes you think you have the right to lecture me? Ethan and I haven’t even officially ended things, but you’re already so eager to take my place. Aren’t you worried about what people will say about you?”
“You…” Melisa was rendered speechless, clearly furious at how directly I had struck back.
I refused to give her time to recover. One after another, I went straight for the things I knew would hurt. “Do you really think you’re so important? Everyone can see what you’re after. You’re chasing Ethan for his money and position. So don’t pretend you’re some innocent, righteous woman!”
Her voice shook with restrained rage. “Lianne, don’t take this too far. I’m willing to negotiate with you because I’m being considerate. Don’t mistake my kindness for weakness.”

“Kindness?” I laughed derisively. “If you were truly kind, you wouldn’t have gone after my mate. Let me put it plainly. I’ll walk away, but only if I decide the price. Ethan’s penthouse in the city center, plus five percent of his shares in the Voss Group. Both have to be transferred to me. Otherwise, we’ll take this to court. I would be very interested to see how a judge views a mistress trying to claw her way into a wealthy man’s life.”
Melisa said nothing for a minute. When she finally spoke, every word was forced through clenched teeth. “Not a chance.”
“Then there’s nothing left to discuss,” I replied casually. “I’m not in a hurry. We can take our time and see which one of us gives in first.”
With that, I ended the call.
I let out a long sigh of relief as I sank heavily onto the sofa.
Keeping up the performance had been more draining than I expected. I had to weigh every sentence carefully, constantly worried that one wrong word might expose me. Ethan soon came out of the study with a glass of water in his hand. He passed it to me, then sat beside me.
His eyes fell on the jewelry sketches scattered across the coffee table. “I’ll set aside some time this weekend and help you refine these designs,” he said casually.
I immediately shook my head. “There’s no need. You’re already swamped with work. Use the weekend to get some rest. I can take care of them myself.”
He gave a soft chuckle and reached over to ruffle my hair. “I want to have a bigger part in your work.”
