The warmth in his eyes softened my heart, and I couldn’t resist teasing him. “Fine, then. You can be my assistant. Five thousand dollars a month, plus bonuses depending on how much work you complete.”
Unexpectedly, he immediately started negotiating with a serious expression. “Five thousand dollars a month is far too small. I’m the CEO of Voss Group, remember? Shouldn’t someone at my level be getting at least twice that?”
I couldn’t help bursting into laughter. “Ten thousand dollars? Do you have any idea how much work you’ll have to do to earn that?”
He pretended to consider it carefully, then replied with complete seriousness, “I’ll run errands for you during the day, communicate with clients, and take care of all kinds of odd jobs. And at night…”
He deliberately paused, and a playful glint appeared in his eyes. He leaned closer to my ear and whispered teasingly, “I’ll still have to work overtime for you at night. That’s genuine physical labor. Shouldn’t I get a bonus for that too?”

He laughed when I pushed him, but instead of backing off, he moved closer again. His arms slipped around me, and he rested his chin lightly on my head. There was a hint of satisfaction in his voice as he teased, “I’m only telling the truth. What? Are you embarrassed?”
Held tightly against him, I couldn’t even move, and the heat in my cheeks only grew stronger.
Somehow, he had completely hijacked a casual conversation. The Alpha who had once been distant and reserved had somehow become remarkably skilled at dirty talk.
The mood between us grew increasingly intimate. He lowered his head. His lips brushed the edge of my ear and his warm breath sent a tingling sensation across my skin. Just when I was getting lost in the moment, my phone suddenly rang. I quickly slipped free from his arms and grabbed my phone. It was Tracy calling. I hadn’t even said a word when her tearful, distressed voice came rushing through the speaker. “Lianne! Where are you? Get to the hospital! Jeremy has gone too far!”
My heart immediately sank. I quickly asked, “What happened? Are you alright? What did Jeremy do?”

“He… he…” She broke into sobs, struggling to catch her breath. “I’ll explain everything when you get here! Just hurry!”
I didn’t dare waste another second. “Okay, okay. I’ll be there soon. Don’t worry. I’m coming right now.”
As soon as the call ended, I stood up to leave.
Ethan got up after me and grabbed his jacket. “I’ll take you.”
Once we reached the hospital, I pulled up the location Tracy had sent me and checked the department.
Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Ethan looked at the sign and was the first to make a joke. “Looks like they’re about to have another baby.”
My thoughts had been running wild throughout the entire drive. I couldn’t stop imagining all sorts of terrible possibilities, afraid that something serious had happened to Tracy.
