Chapter 968:
I lifted my head to look at him. “Really?”
He met my gaze, his expression solemn and determined. “Lianne, I’ve made many choices throughout my life. Some turned out right, and others didn’t. But this time, I have to get it right. There’s no room for failure. Because it involves you.”
I analyzed the situation calmly. “Melisa isn’t like the obsessive Ivy. She’s much more level-headed. What matters most to her is her position, wealth, and the security of her future. Having you isn’t nearly as important to her as those things. If we deal with her carefully, I don’t think she’ll resort to anything drastic.”
He let out a chuckle. Then he looked down at me with amusement flickering in his eyes. “You’ve studied her pretty closely. You seem to understand her very well.”
I moved closer and puffed out my cheeks in playful annoyance. “I’ve studied her thoroughly because she’s got her eyes on you. Well, you’ve spent plenty of time dealing with her, but you’ve never once shown any interest in her.”
His breathing briefly faltered, and his eyes grew slightly darker.
Seizing the opportunity, I leaned toward him and lightly drew circles across his chest with one finger. I sounded somewhat mischievous as I asked, “How about you tell me the whole plan? Every single detail. If you don’t, I’ll keep pestering you until you can’t concentrate on your work.”
He caught my wandering hand and called out in a raspy tone, “Lianne, stop…”
“No,” I insisted, wrapping my arms around him and refusing to move. “I hate being clueless. Having to blindly play along while worrying myself sick is awful. Just tell me a little, please?”
He looked at me for a minute, then finally let out a helpless sigh. “No. I’ll tell you everything once it’s all over.”

“Why can’t you tell me now?” I protested with a pout.
He looked down at me, smiling faintly. “Because I know you too well. If I tell you now, you’ll probably only worry more. And I don’t want to watch you put yourself through that.”
His response immediately irritated me. “Do you really think I can’t control myself?”
He simply lifted one eyebrow and said nothing. But the look in his eyes made his answer clear.
Since he refused to give in, I could only cling tighter to him and continue trying to persuade him. “Ethan, please. Just give me a little hint. I promise I won’t let my imagination run wild or worry about things unnecessarily!”
He smiled, pulled me closer, and placed a tender kiss on my forehead. His voice was gentle but firm. “No. When it’s all over, I’ll tell you everything.”
I let out a resigned sigh. Knowing I couldn’t change his mind, I quietly settled back into his arms.
